In all seriousness I don't give my cats free food because they are indoor cats and therefore don't get lots of exercise. I will implement feeding time usually when I eat, or as a reward, and if I'm about to leave the house.

Not entirely sure about that. One of my cats will come to me for food even when there is food in his bowl. He insists that I go downstairs with him and show him there is food in his bowl already. This sometimes happens minutes after I feed him. Even then, most times he will sniff it and then stare at me until I put new food in the bowl. My other cat will refuse to eat food that is not in HER bowl. She won't touch the food in her brother's bowl right next to her's, but if I dump that food into her bowl, she will eat.
