I've had this male betta for a long time in a 20 gallon tank with 4 corydoras, and 2 other females. This betta started to become slugish and hid a lot the day before he died. He also lost coloration around his face and neck and became white/gray in that area. His belly was also a little bit swollen. I'll provide the autopsy pics below. I think it might have been dropsy, but idk. I wanna hear you guys' opinions. Thanks!

How old was he?
>>

Not sure, I've had him since before summer started. I got him from Walmart I believe. He was already big, maybe it was related to age? Not sure honestly. He never made bubble nests impressive enough for females, he tried mating once. He and the female would try to wrap each other, but that never succeeded.

Carefully slice him open, if the body cavity was just full of fluid, it's probably dropsy. If it's the organs that are swollen it was something else.
Doubt dropsy though, usually takes longer than a day to kill on top of leaving the fish more swollen.
I once had a constipated betta whose innards burst slightly, but the swelling was more asymmetrical then.

Sorry mate, I flushed him a while ago already.

Could it be white slime disease? When I saw him lying dead on the bottom of the aquarium, that white discoloration was more noticable.
>>
>>2282017
Well, as long as your water quality is good and none of the other fish show symptoms, I would just write it of as a weird old fish.
>>
>>2282023
The other fish are fine. Especially the corydoras.

Bettas fish in stores genes are so fucked. On top of that sitting in shit water till someone comes buys them doesn't help either.
