Just pictures of foxes. Red, silver, fennec, whatever. If it's a fox, post it. Bonus points for foxes doing cute things (like this one, smelling a flower), but any good pic of a fox is welcome.

The fox is smelling the daffodil because daffodils smell like fucking piss.

Domesticated foxes creep me out. The tail wagging, ear splaying, and rolling over behaviour just don't look or feel genuine. It has something to do with the behaviour being forced into their genes by experimenters over a few short decades rather than let to be naturally acquired over millenia.
>>2280526
The behavior was always in their genes, it was just impossible to see with all the other genes masking it.
Maybe I'm ignorant, but it seems like foxes are one of the few species that have actually adapted pretty well to human interference.

I have a huge fox that visits my yard from time to time. He minds the Dobie and no harm done. Love seeing him.
Question:
Now that red foxes are domesticated, do you think over time people will make different breeds of red foxes the same way we have different dog breeds?
Because I'm trying to imagine how that would look. A red fox the size of a gold retriever. Or one with floor-length long shaggy fur. Or short muzzle like a pug.
>>2280847
probably not, most of the 'domestic' red foxes are for the fur trade not for pet ownership.
unless you establish breeding mills devoted to pet foxes (oh the red tape that would entail), you're not going to see much phenotypical variation in 'domestic' red foxes.
There's been a few generations of foxes that nest around my parent's place. Seeing the little babby foxes out running and playing is great, and we get to see the adults going back and forth between hunting grounds (a small patch of woods full of squirrels and rabbits and stuff) and their den, which was in the bank of an old pond, but they may have gotten rained out there.
>>2280526
You realize dogs are smaller, genetically altered wolves?
We are more advanced now. Only reason it took less time with foxes.
When describing the Tibetan Fox's face, someone once said to imagine a poorly drawn children's picture of a fox
>>2280526
No, on the contrary: you need specific mutation to get rid of tail wagging. Breed for docile behavior and the tail wagging and curly dog-like tail and a hell of other things are in the same package. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_linkage All the traits are already here.

does the fox on NWT's coat of arms count?
Does gray/silver coloration occur naturally in foxes, or is it all from fur farm escapees?
Like with black wolves, where they all supposedly have a black dog ancestor somewhere along their genetic lineage.
>>2284214
Fur farm escapees? Kek, no alot of foxes have those colors from that russian domestication breeding program. You can purchase them for a hefty price if you want one as a pet.
>>2283007
derpy fox
>>2283007
Or bad taxidermy
>>2284486
>Fur farm escapees? Kek
Well, breeding foxes for exotic fur patterns has been a thing for a very long time. I don't want one either a pet or pelt, I'm just wondering which color variants are natural.
Science usually isn't this adorable.
>>2280640
>Maybe I'm ignorant, but it seems like foxes are one of the few species that have actually adapted pretty well to human interference.
More and more species do.
But most of them are generalists and omnivores.
When it comes to birds it would make much different if people had better gardens i.e. with many plants and preferably most of them native (a few non-native are fine). Feeding isn't such a good idea since it favors the most aggressive species.

But for all of them they probably ain't eating crabs solely

It isn't experimentation, merely selective breeding, the very same thing we did and continue to do with other domesticated animals.
Don't be retarded. It isn't like these foxes are being subjected to mass chemical experimentation.

Some sort of a nature photographer took these photos and posted them on its normiebook or whatever and they caught a bit of media attention and some journalist asked a wild life specialist if the fox was trying to get high by eating the mushroom. They considered it pawsible
Later the photographer admitted it had put some cat food on top of the mushroom to attract the fox butt didkn't anticipate what happened next

I grew up on a lake and one winter a dog fell through the ice and it refroze with his ass sticking straight up in the air above the ice. Had to look at that ass everyday for two months before the ice thawed and the dog sunk. Rather depressing.

Other local wildlife probably enjoyed it.

is it unethical to prime the scene like that, or not a big deal?
So is there any benefit to buying a Russian fox these days?

That institute is still the only place in the world from which you can get foxes selectively bred for docility for 30+ years.
>>2298568
Damn. Well I have my heart set on one, but It's gonna be a few good years before I have the money for one. But as long as it's worth it; I've heard phenomenal things about those foxes, and pet foxes in general.
>>2298482
have you ever watched a nature documentary?

Maybe you could steal an island fox from California? They're pretty docile from what I've read.

Inari's gonna turn you into a neck warmer.
I work on a ski resort during nights on the mountain, and I constantly see foxes, I think it's the same one most of the time.
I figure it's coming because we keep our trash and compost on the dock which it smells.
Should I start shooing him off? Supposidly feeding them is bad because it teaches them to approach humans for food, even though I really want to feed them.
>>2307164
In the long term it's best for everyone if you scare it off. If it loses its fear of humans it's just a matter of time before it will jump someone's kid to steal a sandwich, or approach some great white huntard and get shot for shit and giggles.
>>2307216

Today while I was riding my bike I saw a dead fox on the road. R.I.P foxbro.
>>2284214
>>2284493
Silver and cross variations both naturally occur in the wild even before we bred them for fur. Silver is melanistic and cross is partially melanistic. If you breed a normal red fox with a silver fox chances are you will get a cross fox or at least a fox with darker legs, tail and maybe underbelly. Some red parents may also produce a silver.
There's also wild mutations where red foxes have more white on them.
>>2305972
Anymore spotted foxes like this?

I've got a few more in non-standard colors.

I've had a few urban foxes just trot up to me and look at me like I'm supposed to give them food or pet them before they just walked away. Never saw one this friendly though but I'm not out at night too much.
A lot of them are used to people treating them nicely and feeding them around here.

>>2280526
"A few decades"? Try just a few short years. The experiment to domesticate foxes was expected to take 11 or 12 fox generations; it had instead been achieved by 2 or 3. And it didn't require forcing at all, the foxes just started picking up on cues of what humans liked to see and started doing it.
>>2283007
Oh for fox sake...
>>2295573
Bumping for feece.
I really, really, really like that word.
It even has a naturally accented genitive " feeces' " to further distinguish it from "faeces". In all ways, it is an aristocratic plural.
