Not that poster, but clthe biggest issues with chihiahuas are usually their teeth. They have horrific dental issues. If you can train them to accept teeth brushing, you can mitigate it quite a bit.

I'm mostly outside exercising during the day, but in the early mornings and nights I find wifi and relax. As long as you can keep it fed, if you're out and about exercising with it and not locking it in your van, it could be okay. In the evening, after a long day, most dogs will appreciate the downtime relaxing.

Sounds a pretty well suited lifestyle for a dog, especially a troubled one from a pound who would benefit in a isolationist environment.

Large dogs are fine as long as you can routinely exercise them for two hours bare minimum every day. Empahsis on routine.

Most city pounds (as in the ones run by the city government) literally give zero fucks to whom they give their animals to. As long as you can pay out the dosh, I doubt they will care.

Places like the Humane Society, ASPCA, small rescues, etc. Are the ones who generally will ask you questions or investigate.

Shelters or the pound probably won't even ask, and they definitely won't check. Rescues will probably investigate, and even do a home visit. They invest in getting the animals healthy so they want to make sure you are prepared to take care of them.

Based on what our trainer said and it made sense they are "sit, stay, come, and leave it"

Pretty much the commands that will best keep your dog and others safe. stay, to keep him from running off at will.Sit is the best "base" commands that will make it easy to setup other commands. Come, to keep him from running away into danger if he happens to dart off somewhere. and leave it, not only to keep him from eating things when hes not supposed to but with consistency it will teach him to eventually ignore "new" items that he may eat, such as pills unless specifically told he can "take it".

i'd higly recommend training class if you feel you may not have the structured time to teach your dog yourself. I liked my Petsmart class but I hear that those classes can be a 50/50 shot depending on your area. mine was very knowledgeable and not sell happy. While i've heard others are nothing more than infomercial classes with half assed trainers who just want to sell you petsmart products. So i'd research if you're thinking about classes.

Anyways yeah, I would teach those commands above anything else.

She's actually quite calm most of the time but she's already 12 years old too. She's very kind and wants to participate in everything, so loyal could be a good word, she barks a lot like all spitzes and can get anxious, if for example I'm walking her with my mom, we stop by a store on the way home and wait outside while mom gets some milk/something else from the store. She's also very protective despite being too small to actually protect anyone. My cousins had a German Shepherd and a Labrador Retriever and our dog acts like a mixture of them, so she's not the overtly energetic rascal that most small dogs are.

He's blind, deaf, diabetic, and fell into the pool this morning.

I am unsure how to feel other than sad. He is so old and has been with us for so long that i'm not sure i'm ready to deal with this again.

The last pet we had to put to sleep was our cat who lived to be 21 before she passed, and it was the same story.

English Shepherd owner here, too. My boy is 6 months old. As far as I'm aware there are only two of us on /an/ who own one.

It's interesting you say that they're rare outside of the UK because they're actually an American breed and very rare outside the USA. The breed is from landrace collies that were brought from the UK to the USA by the early settlers, which is why it's called an English Shepherd despite being an American breed.

I have never seen anyone else in person with them besides the breeder I got mine from. Didn't even know they existed until I saw a breeder here advertise them. I did some research and went and visited them and fell in love with the breed. They're easily one of the smartest breeds of dogs ever. The only reason people say Border Collies are the smartest is because they don't know English Shepherds exist.

oh my bad, I got it mixed with some other dog breed. I first learned of them from an House MD episode. Guy in the episode had a very cute sable english shepherd service. Though the dog did end up eating guys pills and causing himself and the patient to die but. Oh well, good dogs and all.

Pic is my parents aussie. Smart boy. Will do just about anything for a game of tug of war, other than sit calmly on your lap. Loves attention but isnt really a cuddly type.

Small dogs get a bad rap but it's not because they're inherently mean or yappy. It's because people don't take them seriously/don't respect them as dogs and thus don't take care of them properly or train them right. People often allow small dogs to be badly behaved because it's "cute" and don't provide them enough exercise, stimulation, etc.

So if you have a little dog and you actually treat it like any other dog, train it and exercise it, etc., they can be great dogs just like any other.

I can only assume you're doing it right since your dog is a good dog. So good job! She's really cute.

Thanks. I love my weimaraner, but the breed can be a hassle sometimes. They need a lot of exercise, and they get separation anxiety. But she's very loyal and I love playing with her floppy ears
