Arthropod (and endotherms generally) immune systems are pretty junk compared to most mammals and birds.

I have toxoplasmosis in me and while I never developed the more extreme symptoms (not a schizo, not risk taker) I have an almost unhealthy empathy for cats. Though of course my other instincts kicked in before I could turn into a hoarder, but it did make me fund and build a private cat rescue. If I was poorer I'd probably be a crazy cat dude though.
