I want to have a lizard/ reptile pet
How should i start? Im really clueless, i want something to take care of and stare to, because i think lizards are very cute
Pic unrelated, i do not partake in any KKK activities
Also, if anyone has images of cute, small lizards, i would appreciate if you dropped some

your first lizard ever?
Go with something easy and sturdy - look into Leopard Geckos. They're cute, easy to take care of, and will live a long time.
pic related - one of mine

they'll grow to be around 8-11 inches long head-tail. If you're looking for something smaller, look into anoles

Being a reptile owner is hard work, with lots of dedicated upkeep and attentive care. Just finding them cute isn't a great starting point. Read up on lizards you might want to adopt or purchase and talk top other herp owners about what starting costs and average time they have to put in daily. Then read a lot more about the specific lizards you might want to get. Then read some more about them. Then think real hard if you want to put in a measurable amount of time into your daily routine to care for a reptile. Oh and read some more about the lizard you want to get.

People will tell you to use sand in their terrarium. Dont. Sand is bad, mmkay?
Many people think Leopard Geckos live in the desert, but they actually live in rocky-plains.
You'll want to provide a tank that has nice stone-like floors and a ton of places to hide.
I use thick vinyl tiles as simulated stone in Geckos' tanks.
They are strictly insectivores and cannot digest fruit or vegetables. They are attracted to movement and will only go after live bugs. You must be OK with handling live bugs (worms, roaches, etc.).
Don't feed them crickets as the chumps in the petstore will tell you. Crickets are low in nutritional value. I'd advise you order some Dubia Roaches online and have them shipped to your house (hopefully you don't live in FL where Dubias are illegal). Give them a staple diet of Dubias and Superworms (or mealworms if you find supers to be too big). Their bugs should be dusted with calcium every other feeding.

This, too. Reptile keeping is definitely hard work. Please don't get one just because you're bored or want a change of pace. You'll be taking care of a live animal for 10-25 years and that animal will be relying on you for all of their needs. Not a decision to be made lightly.
Here's one of my little ones as a hatchling with my girl

Thank you so much
Can you link your tumblr page? I need new things to follow
As for my reasoning, yes, ive been thinking of dedicating time again to a pet
Im not a total newbie in caring, i kept a big dog alive for about 6 years after it was passed down to me by my father ( he kept him for 4) , sadly the dog was kidnapped and never to be seen again because criminal gang doing business by my area
Now that im in college i miss having something to care for, and im very lonely at home, so i think having a new pet will help
Do you think geckos ever grow trust for their carers? Like the dont run away when i pet them after some time?
This is Egg - the day we took him home. He was about 2-3 weeks old.
Another tip: do not house multiple Leos in one tank. Recipe for disaster. Get a 20gallon long for each Leo

Yeah man np - I've been keepin herps for 4-5 years now. It's a great hobby that's very rewarding.
Here's a link to the blog - I don't update it as much as I used to but it gets occasional posts

Gecko guy here,
I also have this guy - he's a Sudanese Plated Lizard. A fun, over-looked lizard that is (for the most part) naturally tame. Won't bite you, may tail whip you. Super fast and slippery guy
excellent to receive help from you guys, as well as the pics
first time im in the board, this is cool and i can see you people have a lot of OC, i should post here more often
