do buns have lots of health problems? im thinking of getting a baby bunny. they show up really rarely in my local shelters so the pet store is my only option i think.

fuck you op, i'll keep my bunny photos to myself
>>2262275
They are usually healthy but can have stomach problems like wet tail. They need toys to chew on so their teeth dont overgrow and cause pain, and you should clip their nails on a schedule
>>2262266
For you
Rescuing a bun that was dropped off at a park today, wish me luck!

They're a LOT of work
Bunnies look cute but they have potential to be near satanic
>be me 2/3 yrs ago
>acquire baby bun
>cute as shit, loves everyone
>bun grows up
>starts pissing everywhere in the house
>starts chewing and destroying everything in sight
>gets a shit pancake/dreadlock on her tail at least once a week that must be removed with a pair of scissors
>hates everyone and grunts/bites/scratches at every opportunity
>end up living in a shit caked, smelly, destroyed house because of demon rabbit
>get rid of the fucker
>got a cat 1 yr ago
>best decision ever made
tl;dr don't get a rabbit unless:
1. You plan to keep it outside with a companion
2. You have literally unlimited/lots of free time
3. Can cope with major rejection
Rabbits are essentially undomesticated. They're not good for food or as pets, so should be left in the wild imo
Bun.. James bun
>>2262527
>not good for food
I beg to differ, try rabbit stew sometime.
Been waiting so long for one of these threads to pop up. Don't have a bun, but have wanted one since I was a little kid.
>>2262529
Nice
>>2262256
Bunnies don't like being held like that, you should only put them on their back when it is necessary. Like maybe sometimes when you cut their nails. Or you could just try again later without putting them on their back.
>>2262527
You are a fucking idiot. That bunny reached sexual maturity. You should get it neutered/spayed. It was marking territory by pissing and shitting. And you have to bunny proof your house. And the shit pancake in its fur is your fault for feeding it an improper diet/not brushing it. I have a bunny that runs freely in the apartment, i don't have any of these problems you described.
>>2262527
Maybe do some fucking research before you get a pet

L M F A O
tell me something new
>>2262527
Yeah I'm just going to reinforce this point. You didn't know the animal you were caring for. The bun grew up became a teenager and that's what un-spayed/un-nutuerd buns do.
Most idiots can get a cat/dog and just get food for it and google the two problems most owners have, which is mostly getting it to shit in the proper place. You should have gotten a cat in the first place you lazy asshole. But don't blame the rabbit when you don't know what the fuck you are doing.
>>2262527
Lazy person unqualified for the random animal they obtained, which was a cute baby, to the surprise of nobody.
Never get anything classified as exotic, unless one is planning to put the extra care and time into their pet. You sound like the type of person that would have ended up killing the rabbit through feeding them something they should not have, or just letting them bite into a live cable at some point. The worst part is that it sounds like you never took them to a vet, since a vet with rabbit experience would have told you that they're stupid easy to litterbox train, and to not let them have complete freedom without precautions and usually supervision.
>>2263527
>exotic
>rabbit
>>2263538
That's what they're classified as at vets, yes
Just because they're everywhere, doesn't mean vets are trained to handle them and all their nuances. An alternative would be "premium" pet, as they're out of the norm, but vets and others still classify them as exotics, the same with most animals that aren't dogs / cats / common pets or farm animals

Well kind of. I'm a Hikikomori with a disability and my 3yo Dutch Breed is breddy well behaved. I'm pretty sure it's about the type of breed a rabbit is. Nothings wrong with my bunbun at all. I used to have her brother a white flop breed (I don't remember the breed) during the first year of owning them. I got rid of him because he was really sexually frustrated when I stop him from fucking and it pissed me off because I'm a single virgin.
>>2265942
Forgot to mention he was neutered when I first noticed he wasn't a girl. His testicles grew so large I had the vet vasectomize it off. He also was fucking stompy because I stopped liking him. I remember he used to be licky and stuff. Nevermind that was two or more years ago. My Dutch Breed bunbun is very ninja quiet. Very well behaved. She likes me a lot except the times where I wanna pick her up.

idk man i don't speak autism
>>2264218
How do you control your bunny's shedding? I'd let them romp around but they just get their shit everywhere.
Also does anyone have any suggestions for toys? I've given them willow bark balls and chew toys My bunnies aren't very active and just laze around. They do like hiding though.
>>2266421
I gave mine a pinecone
>>2262256
Do buns like to be picked up and pet
>>2266467
if you try to pick up my bun, she will go into panic mode, heartbeat/breathing starts to get really fast.
>>2266467
My bunnies HATE it but some bunnies are okay with it. Depends on their personality
Can animals have feelings?
Big boys
>>2266421
For mine, I gave him a metal slinky, which he enjoys tossing about. I've given a few teething keys for babies to my rabbit, but he's decided to just tear them apart, instead of flinging them around carelessly.
I've found cardboard tubes and boxes are what mine likes the most for entertainment. Old toilet paper rolls are cheap and plentiful options for toys.
>>2266467
Usually not, from what I've read around the web. It depends on how they're picked up as well, since there are plenty of ways to do it wrong.
Mine fights tooth and nail if I try to pick him up more than a few inches, and he doesn't like it at all. Like I'll get into his pen and sit on the ground, talk to him as I lightly pick him up to place him into my lap to love on him, only to have him jump up and huff shortly afterwords.
>>2266421
I try to comb him once the shedding starts to get most of it out, which he hates btw, so it doesn't always work out. Most of the time he will rub his hair on the chair in my pic and it's easy to vacuum that spot as the hairs will form small balls, so I guess I'm just lucky he keeps his shit in one place.
Mine has a big turtle plush that's nearly twice his size and he drags it throughout the entire house. He loves it more than any of his other toys.
What would you say the greatest thing about a bunny compared to other pets is?
>>2266629
Cats and Dogs have fleas. I'm yet to have any bug related problems.. I have a 3yo bunny no problems with flystrike. I've read that if you own a Dog and a Bunny the fleas will transfer over.
>>2266634
I forgot to mention. I'm always on top of things like cleaning my bunbuns scent glans or her butt that's why no flystrike. Eg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x9dbSUdomg
>>2266634
Hmm cat fleas too. Or if they live in a multi pet household.
here's mine
>>2266629
They're like autistic versions of dogs or cats that are both pretty awkward and endearing, at least all of mine have been. They've got their own weird characteristics and I often find myself laughing at their strange quirks.
Pic related for example is really noisy for some reason. He makes sounds at everything which I haven't seen in one of my pet rabbits before. He also loves ripping apart cardboard boxes.
>>2266775
That bunny is cute as fuck
>>2264750
Those chubby legs are amazing
This thread is making me so sad. Here's my bun bix. She died in September out of nowhere. We woke up early and heard her squeeking and crying and her belly was super bloated. I rushed her to the vet with my girlfriend but she died halfway there. The vet said that buns intestines can get blocked very easily and after that you can't do anything. Seriously the best bun ever, litter box trained, came over when we called her, and was so funny. i miss her so much it's not even funny. We got a pit bull to fill the void but id take my bun over a dog any day.
>>2266814
I'm so sorry. You'll see your bun again at the rainbow bridge.
>>2266814
How old was she when she died? Is that the only bunny you had?
>>2266820
My girlfriend got her from someone on Craigslist when she was a year old. We had her for about 2 years. yea she was the only bunny we had
>>2266829
Did you try everything to unstuck what was there in the intestines? Like rubbing her tummy or whatever? Or is this a bad thing to do? I feel sorry too :(
>>2262256
How do I get my rabbit to stop chewing on my couch?
>>2266833
We went straight to the vet as soon as we found out something was wrong. the vet said emergency surgery can save them if it's early enough, but she died in the car. My gf was rubbing her tummy in the back seat but it didn't help.
>>2266833
If you notice it early enough you can rub their belly to get it unstuck. Often when my rabbit is silently brooding somewhere I'll rub his belly. If there's nothing wrong he'll push me away and if there is he lets me rub it.
Would quite like to get a rabbit one day, but only when I can be sure that I can actually care for it properly. Enjoyable (minus the recent sad post) to read this thread and others like it in the meantime
>>2266810
Here you go, anon
>>2266926
I think you would be fine , they aren't too hard to care for. Just be careful when it's out of its cage. I reccomend a medium sized dog cage. They do shit everywhere but it's hard little balls so it's easy to clean. Their piss smells pretty bad tho.
>>2267001
Can they be potty trained?
>>2267017
They're often naturally potty trained, but some feel pretty alpha and will drop some territorial poops if they aren't neutered.
