Before you get more fish, please invest in a larger aquarium. I have a minimum of at least a 2.5 gallon, usually a five gallon. Yours is five times smaller. They are incredibly cheap at Petsmart. They also have betta filters and heaters.
I have seen bettas stocked with other fish before in a fish shop in South STL... The bettas seemed really chill. I can't recall what fish they were with, though.
Don't get a catfish. I got an albino cory one when I was eight to keep my betta company. He bit off the fins of my betta. My mom and I returned him to the pet shop. Because they had recommended that catfish, they offered a replacement betta, but we were too upset about ours, who was still alive. He lingered for a few weeks and then died. thrift stores often have cheap tanks

I had snails and shrimp with my beta in a 10 gal. the shrimp were scared shitless of it, but they got along in harmony
