When I was a kid I owned a pacman frog or south american horned frog. He was awesome, had him for years. Later I also briefly had 2 anoles and an iguana but this was all before I turned 16. Its been a decade since I had a similar pet and I have an aquarium set up and waiting, just trying to decide what reptile/amphibian to go with, ya know?

I have spent part of my life delving into mysticism, meditation, and occult practices and thats how I heard about the Colorado River toad.

Pet stores rarely have them and their population is decreasing. I wanted to get one now from someone who lives there or raises them on /an/ because its not some poaching smuggler of a pet store.

Anyone here ever encounter one? Look how cute!

If you're into the occult, I'm surprised you're not going for poison dart frogs.
Or maybe some newts (like every recipe uses eye of newt).

I've been reading Eye of Newt and Toe of Frog, Adder's Fork and Lizard's Leg - The Lore and Mythology of Amphibians and Reptiles by author Crump Marty.

Its really great, tons of lore and legend I'd never heard before even in other books.

The Colorado River toad though, it secretes a substance that alters your state of mind directly. It can be used during rituals to strengthen the trance or self-hypnosis required to program your subconscious with the intent of the ritual.

it's against the law to sell, own or export.

literally anyone you get one from is a poaching smuggler.

yes, I have seen them.
>>
>>2245819

There is a big difference between a smuggler/poacher making money and someone keeping one as a pet or breeding them in captivity so their plummeting population doesnt result in the Earth being without them in the near future.

The law hardly has animals best interest in mind and even a quick google shows you that pet stores around the world ARE getting them in and I'd rather pay a fellow keeper here on /an/ than some of the types I've seen running 'minimum standards' pet stores.

their population isn't actually plummeting.

you're still allowed to use them as fishing bait or hunt them to eat in at least one state.

there's no difference between poaching and taking and keeping animals you don't have a legal right to keep. Those are literally the same thing.

you can pretend they're doing it to 'protect' them but it's bullshit. Notice how many other endangered animals AREN'T being kept illegally for their 'protection.'

the people you say are 'protecting' them are the only real threat the animals face. People like you. Drug users and poachers.
>>
>>2245817
So you want one to get high? You're worthless.
>>
>>2245831

their pop. is plummeting, they're even endangered in areas they were once plentiful.

poaching and keeping arent the same thing, owning and selling arent the same thing.

and yeah, lots of endangered animals are kept to preserve them - bees will soon be one of them and eating SOME honey from bees youre raising isnt cruelty.
>>
>>2245844
>bees will soon be one of them
the bee population is stable you fucking meme.
>>
>>2245844
Going into the wild and taking an endangered animal out if it's environment is considered poaching. The only reason you want it is to lick it and get high. Stop with the poor excuses. Go into nature and lick one and leave it be. But making it secrete it's poison will stress it out and maybe you'll kill it.
>>
>>2245848

But thats wrong.

https://beeinformed.org/results/colony-loss-2014-2015-preliminary-results/

In fact its so wrong its almost as if you're joking. Its been declining for almost 30 years according to most countries from the UK to Australia and its the lowest on record in first world countries. You're almost the most wrong thing I've ever read.

>>2246150

No, poaching and 'game law' arent the same thing unless you also think that 'poaching' marijuana, blackberries, or sunflower seeds is poaching. If you do, fine. But your silly ideas suggest one guy can kill 8 per day in season but I cant own 1 without a special license or permit.

If you think thats right, cool, thats your world view and I hope you someday talk to enough intelligent and open minded people that you adjust it.

Either way its clear nobody who owns one has replied so I'm gonna go, thanks for your time folks.
>>
>>2246189
Taking things out of the wild without a permit is POACHING. You don't have to hunt and kill them to be considered them poaching. Marijuana, blackberries, and sunflowers don't need a permit. What kind of strawman is that? Poaching deer is also a problem because you need a permit and they aren't declining.

they're rising.

Are you saying you're intelligent? Your argument holds no substance and you don't know what you're talking about. I would suggest you read up before trying to sound intelligent or trying to make a good argument. Or lick some toads by stressing them out and then throw it in the trash
>>
>>2246303
Any more recent stats? I don't believe there declining. I see 15 post a day from "news"'sites about how bees are endangered and how the reef is completely dead.
>>
>>2246306
it's measured every three years and the year isn't over yet.

it's a media fad, a meme, there's no hard evidence suggesting they're declining.

'da bublebeez r dying!!!! we gon starve!!' is good clickbait.
>>
>>2245792
Unless your hillary clinton your intent does not matter. Its poaching.

Except you got that from a .org site headed by a guy whose only degree is in philosophy, Jon Entine.

Meanwhile I am linking research from the USDA, a .gov website with research published in real journals, not internet graphs that you so sheepishly refused to source at all.

http://usda.mannlib.cornell.edu/usda/current/BeeColonies/BeeColonies-05-12-2016.pdf

So thats the USDA.

This is one of the worlds top scientific journals - Science.

http://science.sciencemag.org/content/349/6244/177

Heres more actual research, reaching even China's bees.

http://www.bbka.org.uk/news_and_events/bbka_honey_survey_2015

The most recent survey out of the British Beekeepers Association reports a 34% decline in honey production per hive.

Thats recent, this is what they said to BBC news in 2008.

Here are some independent biologists published on PLOS ONE.

Screw describing them, heres more.

Here, just read any of it.
