Neon Goby for reference.
Snake eel of some sort, right?
>>2233141
Right thought.
>>2233133
yellow spotted snake eel or some such
you catch him?
Negative, and no. My preliminary research suggests this is the only living example of one in captivity in the US.

Just missed
>>2233146
you buying endangered species off Divers Den again Dan?
>>2233158
Not Dan, not endangered. Just misunderstood and tend to only live <month in captivity.

just looks like a spotted snake eel to me.
Pattern, blade dorsal fin, and color different. Has been identified as a different species.

this one here.
Which is....

File name.
Not trying to be a dick. But why keep something that's only gonna live a month in captivity? Are you trying to see what will make it live a full life?
>>2233166
filename.
golden spotted snake eel.
yellow spotted snake eel.
spotted snake eel.
depends where you live.
>>2233166
ok, you probably call it a sharptail eel.
Myrichthys breviceps
>>2233168
Yes, he has survived 8 months in a 240 gallon system with a 220 gallon filter. Hand fed after being sold in to the aquarium trade emaciated. He has a conspecific diet of expensive green emerald crabs, was slowly hand trained off crabs onto frozen krill, he just accepted krill this week. Green emeralds are loaded in the the system 2 times a month in an isolated chamber to illicit hunting then he is fed 2-3 when his last meal has passed. Green emeralds will still be fed monthly to better support natural diet. The running intention it to promote health and lifespan.
>>2233174
how long have you had him?
nice work getting his weight up and weaning him onto frozen.
>>2233173
He is a sharptail snake eel. Outsizing the simular large spot eel and having different identifying features than the gold spot snake eel. Here is an ice cream.
>>2233175
Thank you. He does have to compete with the neon goby, two horses, three clowns, a solar, a radiant and a blue star Leopard wrasse. Lives in a system with constantly pregnant peppermints, sponge crabs and monkie shrimp. SeaPonies for reference.

I took care of him and ran "care expiraments" starting the day he arrived. Since there is relatively no available information regarding the species at this time. I'm currently waiting for another to arrive to force a sex conversion and note dimorphism.
>>2233165
Also I don't believe this to be a gold spot snake eel.
>>2233180
I do enjoy dimorphism in hermaphrodites.
I'd love to see pics if you manage to pull that off.
Impressive work keeping him alive either way.
>>2233180
Experiment? On poor animal? You mother of fuck! I will hunt you!
>>2233186
Thank you, Mr. Noodle is a labour of love.

Don't be mental, I recorded weight an density. Introduced different potential foods to find interest. Then used electro magnetic fields and scent markers to test senses. Get responces. He was dying, my goal was to get him healthy. If you know nothing, poke prod feed. If I hadn't then I would have learned through dissection.
>>2233190
You are a fuck! Very imbalanced in head! What fuck your cut open for?!
>>2233192
Yes?

Good luck. It seems like your doing a really good job with a hard to keep fish. The aquarium here kept an endemic magnificent snake eel for at least I'd say at least 14 years. I remember it being on exhibit with other eels since I was five, so good luck in the long run. Here's the info if it helps.
http://www.waikikiaquarium.org/experience/animal-guide/fishes/eels/snake-eels/
It was kept in a pretty weird eel tank with a snowflake, zebra, and dragon moray all introduced around same time. The substrate wasn't sand like in the wild, but it seemed okay with hiding in live rock. All were target fed with poles of fish, squid, and shrimp. Competing with the other eels might have attributed to the snake eel actively seeking out food along with being caught fresh and having no flyover. They also used fresh seawater pumped in from a well, so that might've helped with water quality and any infections. Cleanup crew was a couple rock boring urchins.
Video of the eel back in 2008 in the old exhibit to show the length.

Vid to show the new tank and tankmates at 10:30.

I hope the info helps op. Good on you for giving the eel a large tank, got it eating, and whatnot.
