We don't. They have been around long, long before us, and they will be around long after we are gone.

In some places they are doing it by genetically engineering sterile male mosquitos (which do not bite unlike females), feeding them a lot so they get big and sexually attractive, then releasing them in mosquito heavy areas. The female breed with them, nothing happens, and the mosquitoes die out.

Raise your blood alcohol level a lot. Mosquitoes don't handle alcohol well and will crash when they start flying. It's remarkable how many will go head-on into each other when they're drunk

Actually they're essential prey for thousands of tiny animals - from aquatic larvae and tadpoles to frogs, dragonflies etc.

Also they help keep the human population down in areas where biodiversity is most-threatened, so that's nice
