Is it possible to have an otter as a pet? And if it's possible, is it a terrible idea?
Also, otter thread.

no

yes

What could go wrong with having a pet sociable, semi-aquatic predator ? Maybe the fact that they're even more hyperactive than ferrets, or that they have skunk-like putrid-smelling glands ?
It's a terrible idea, sorry. Have some sleeping babies.

OK, yeah, they have stink glands, but come on. Totally worth it.

Yes, depends on your state's/country's regulations and laws. They're friendly and intelligent, they'll also destroy your house.

>friendly
Attempts to reintroduce them into the wild are almost impossible because of their emotional attachment to their caretaker's face(s).
Rehabilitation of wild otters can only be done wearing a full body suit and mask.

It's possible, yeah, but it's really not a good idea. Get a ferret, or maybe a mink. They're pretty much the same thing but much easier to manage. Otters stink and will destroy your house, plus you basically need to have a pool to properly accommodate them
