As far as I know it originated on some obscure Russian forum, where someone posted their cat with a plate of blini around the day of Maslenitsa — a very old Slavic festival of spring. Blini is a traditional Maslenitsa dish and there is a Russian proverb "not everything is Maslenitsa for a cat". Other people posted their cats with blini as well, I think Jazz was among them. Or maybe not.

My 6 y/o cat is not eating, randomly growling and is just dopey and lazy. What the fuck is wrong with her? Going to vet tomorrow but I want to know a general sense of what it could be as the vet said one of my other cats needs to be put down. Day later she was 100% fine.

I'm such a cuck for my cat. I mean.. she makes room for ME, so I make room for her.

It's really as simple as trying to communicate with your animal and understanding why they do the things they do. You open this bridge between both of you where you both know you can communicate with each other and get some of that message across. A lot of people don't communicate other than some body language and petting. Then they will tell you that cats are evil. :/

First time posting on an
My cat got really stressed out in a 200 mile trip she was in a cage
Like pissing and puking everywhere
When we got home she ran away and came back 3 days later
Kitten looks good
She is 13 years old and I dont remember last time she was vaccinated but it was a while ago
She will freak if I take her to the vet now and I dont see any bites or wounds in her body
Is it wort the scare of a vet trip right now?
Should it get her vaccinated asap?
Or only if she looks sick?

New kitten owner here. He's almost 4 months old and he's smart as fuck.

But he hasn't figured out that there are only two places I consider off limits for him: kitchen counters, and my desk when i'm at it (he likes to paw at the monitors when I'm using the computer, otherwise I guess it's not a big deal)

How do I get him to stop counter surfing? It's driving me insane having to grab him when he jumps near my food when I'm cooking and I have to re-wash everything.

i don't wanna make a new thread for this and shit up the catalog, thought maybe you guys could lend me your opinions

>14 year old norwegian forest cat
>has a cancerous tumour in the right part of where her jaw is
>can't be removed surgically
>thyroid problems, needs medication with food twice a day for it
>struggles eating wet food/bits of cold cuts
>tried blending the food, putting it in a ziploc bag and rolling everything flat with a rolling pin
>still struggles to eat
>have a pain medication that needs to be injected under her tongue, usually need two people to hold her down while i do this
>because she can't clean that part of her face, her eye has recently gotten really gooey to the point where it's often crusted shut
>last night noticed that it was beginning to crust over her nose too, held her down and wiped her face clean with quick swipes of a tissue
>she's like harvey dent, sometimes it'll be too hard for her to keep that side of her mouth open
>left side of her face is normal, right side is always pussy and drooling/bloody

so here's the real issue

nah no calorie gel, but just an hour ago my mom came home with medical marijuana pills, so we injected some of that into her mouth to see if it would calm her down/stimulate her appetite/ease the pain enough to give her the real pain killers.

There's not even studies that prove weed is even a good pain killer for cats and dogs, although that is still being tested.

Oddly enough, Valium is a really effective appetite stimulate for cats. In a few minutes, they will wolf down whatever is in front of them. But you need to make sure you have food in front of the cat, as the effects do not last long. Be careful not to overdose though, as with any drug.

Your cat really needs to see the vet for that eye infection, and it's probably easily treatable at this point if it is just runny. Probably got conjunctivitis from inability to clean itself, he'll get eye drops or maybe an ointment. But if you let it go too long, he will lose that eye. And if you let it go longer, the infection spreads, and since the eye is so close to the brain, that will more than likely be the first stop. So by not bringing the cat to the vet, your mother is effectively killing it.

Vets are not allowed to take your property and kill it for you. If they say, "this animal NEEDS to be euthanized", you can always just say 'no'. That's all. If you don't want to hurt the vet's feelings, you can always say you want to bring him somewhere to get a second opinion because you don't feel like it's his time. Believe me, as someone who has seen way too many cases of animals who needed to die a long time ago, vets have no power over euthanizing your animal. They may accidentally kill it if it has to have surgery in it's current condition. The vet may try to guilt you into euthanasia, but you can say no.

So, I have a cat. Last Wednesday, I had some relatives over right before Thanksgiving, and they let her out of the house while I stepped out to get some supplies. Looked for hours, couldn't find her.

Spent a lot of the holiday looking for her, no luck, put up a notice at a nearby library, no contacts.

About an hour ago, I hear meowing at the door, and sure enough, it's little Stormy. Brought her back in, washed her, fed her, and I booked an appointment at the vets, but right now I'm not thinking too clearly, and I wanted an outside opinion as to if there's anything I should be doing that I'm not thinking of.

Most cats do not respond to any name, and if it's a kitten it hasn't even learned it's name. On top of that, shelters give names to all of their cats whether they came in with one or not. That way they can identify the animal instead of saying 'that cat over there'. Also, it's easy as fuck to train an animal it's name. I could do it with guinea pigs and rabbits, you should be able to handle it with a cat. If you want an animal to respond to a name, honestly a cat probably isn't for you

A shelter should let you hang out with the cat for a while before deciding to adopt. Decide what you want in a cat before adopting. Is it important that the cat is a lap cat? Do you want a cat you can hold for long periods of time? Also if you never had cats before, look into how to properly pick up and hold a cat. I've seen retards pick a cat up by the legs and then get pissed when the cat immediately tries to get away. Don't be surprised if a cat that was friendly at the shelter turns into a dick when you bring it home - many cats will get temperamental after a move like that and it may take them a couple days to get over their tantrum. I'd also recommend keeping the cat quarantined in a smaller room for a week or two while they get acclimated with their new life. You may want to try to cat proof things, but it is difficult to cat proof a home without first seeing what bullshit your cat does. I would say put anything fragile away for a bit, especially things on shelves and stuff.

You may want catnip to encourage scratching where you want them to scratch. I've actually had the best luck with those cheap cardboard scratching posts. Obviously you'll want dishes, and some cat poop scoop thing for the box. Maybe a bed too if you don't want them sleeping on couches or beds

What do you mean by that? Usually they will say what they require in adoptions, if you want to post the rescue site. Some rescues are fucking retarded but most adoptions just require valid ID and a conversation. I will say the costs most people struggle with are vet costs, simply because it's a lot all at once. Do you know if the cat is UTD on it's shots and is fixed? If not, look into local vets and call for information on a vet visit, neuter surgery, and shots. You'll need to bring the little guy to a vet every year for a check up and rabies vaccine.

As for not loving each other: I'm fine, as long as they don't attack each other and both use the full house. The new kitten (~2 years old, adopted last week) shows no sign of aggressiveness, she's even mildly curious... the problem is with the old one (6 years old, adopted as a kitten) hisses and runs away even to the smell of the other.
