I honestly don't know what to think. I thought I might invite the views of people smarter than me on the subject.

Makes sense to me.

It says they have over 235,000 horses + 67,000 wild ones and their population doubles every 4 years because they have no predators.

They have to do something to keep their numbers down. I don't see any alternatives.
>>
>>2216826
COULDNT TEAR ME AWAAAAYY
>>
>>2216826
I can't believe Black Lives Matter is going to kill all those horses :'^(
>>
All feral horses and burro in the Americas should be exterminated. I think a bounty on heads would be the best way, let the hunters do whatever they want with the bodies.
>>
>>2216853
This. It's completely retarded that they are protected.
>>
>>2216826
They're just as bad as feral cats. Relase a few cats and problem solved.
>>
>>2216854
It's because they're so majestic and beautiful creatures anon. They are beneficial to nature as well. I have walked up to many wild horses and they have accepted me. Only once was I kicked and all it did was break my arm. Still didn't break my spirit.
>>
>>2216855
I mean, if I had to pick one to be rid of I'd go for the cats. Feral horses aren't good, but at least they don't intentionally kill shitloads of small animals, and would be much easier to find and get rid of than cats.
>>
If people aren't willing to (re)introduce predators to keep their numbers in check, then it is our responsibility to curb overpopulation to prevent collapse of the ecosystem.

Either someone coughs up the money to sterilize the wild horses, or they get killed. It's not fun, it's not pretty, but it's necessary. We have destroyed the balance by removing the predators, we need to take responsibility for the effects of our actions.

>>2216859
Wild horses will actually kill things for no reason and ruin there environments. Far worse than a study done on feral cats on a island.
>>
>>2216863
Yes, but horses would be much easier to get rid of if we actually wanted to. We wouldn't have much trouble mass exterminating feral horses if we decided to. Feral cats would be hard as fuck to get rid of.
>>
>>2216878
Facts are feral cats are not a problem in America. The effect they have is so little it isn't worth the time and money. But on islands they are a problem. You let bugguy get to you.
>>
>>2216826
Maybe, they should just bite the fucking bullet and kill/sell all the feral horses instead of letting this happen in another 10 years. This is not the first time there was a giant culling of feral horses, it won't be the last. This will just keep happening unless they are all dealt with.

Anyway, horse slaughter is illegal in the US currently because MUH MAHJESTIC ANIMAL so they won't go towards anything like food or glue unless shipped to Mexico. The horses don't get the care they need in this facility (think of it like a pet store or animal shelter) and taxpayer dollars are paying for these horses to live out their lives. Whoever thought it was a good idea to protect an invasive species needs to choke on a cock

>>2216853
I concur except I feel as though a lot of people will drop a horse where it is and leave it where it lies, which is not only wasteful but pretty obstructive.

Hardly.

I wasn't even aware that the U.S. had a feral horse problem?
>>
>>2216938
I'm pretty sure feral horse culls don't take place in the middle of the street.
>>
iirc the US has no wild horse populations, only ferals. Doesn't stop middle class soccer mom types from getting frothingly mad about the idea of culls though

The only pro mustang people I talked to irl didn't even know mustangs were not native, didn't understand the meaning of feral vs wild, and had no clue the actual problem they pose. It's like they got the most ignorant people to make laws about shit they knew nothing about without consulting anyone who even owned a farm animal. Every time I see a vet or environmentalist talk about it, they say how bad the feral horse problem is and we need to get their numbers down to 0.
>>
>>2217000
Did you just find out people who make laws are lawyers or political science majors? Shame how we let unlearned people make these kind of decisions

That's like every government ever, m8.
If you want a good laugh, watch a senate debate on a field you're interested in, fun for all.

What do feral horses actually do?

It looks to me, like you heard that's there's an abundance of big things to shoot at, and you will find any excuse to go out and justify your assault rifle.
>>
>>2217390
>stupidest post in the thread
Almost none of the people saying to kill feral horses actually really want to do it personally.
>>
>>2217390
Well, they multiply to the point where the biome can't support them anymore, then 49 million tax dollars are used to keep them in holding for eternity until they are bought or Decided to be Killed.

And if you've never seen horse overpopulation, just Google for it. Horses that are skin and bones, horses that can barely walk, horses that collapsed and waiting to die, foals trying to nurse off mothers that have died long ago. Very majestic.
>>
>>2217390
>What do feral horses actually do?
They're like pests, basically. Imagine rats the size of horses and you get an idea. They're destructive and they overgraze.
