So this quite large spider has made a Web across my backdoor, and I can barely use the door. Can anyone identify the spider and let me know whether or not it's a good idea to move it? If it's going to have babies then I will definitely move it.

Orb weaver of some sort, you'll have to internet search to find which species. It will move, relocating is no big deal. I had one in a bad spot on my porch- messed up her web and she rebuilt it. Did it again and she moved over to the end.
Good/cool spiders to have around .

A pic of its back would be ideal for an ID, but I'm still 99% sure it's a cross spider. Moving it should be fine.
common house spider

Yeah I've messed up its Web several times and it just keeps putting it back

How should I go about moving it? Also I can't really get a picture of its back because it's in the frame of the sliding screen door that's behind the door

No idea, really. Spiders are pretty easy to pick up when they aren't in their webs, but when they are in webs, they tend to just run off to hide in some inivisble retreat when disturbed. Maybe it can be made to leave its web if you gently poke it with a straw of grass from above.

We call them Barn Spiders here, and you should keep it. They do a magnificent job of cleaning up nasty insects around the house
If you keep breaking it's web at night it will eventually get the hint and move on

Everybody always says this about spiders and even some snakes you know, but they always fail to realize that fucking spider is a nasty insect in and of itself. I'd rather have a few roaches
Fuck me.

Is this just another way of saying that spiders are bad just because they're "creepy crawlies"? That they're bad just because our culture says so?

That's Charlotte from Charlottes web. They're fun to feed.
Caught mine doing a mating dance, they were tapping the web at each other. I'll have to webm it someday.
