I'm planning to pick up a pooch in the next few weeks but

In general they are more laid back and easy going, usually wanting to be near you versus running off. A lot has to do with nature and nurture though, so if you're getting an older dog without any previous history on it, it's a small gamble.

Females are the best dogs if you want a more calm personality, IMO, males have the better personality but aren't as good of dogs

I like female dogs and male cats, it seems like the ideal balance for behavior and personality

Everyone has different experiences. I think females are little bitches, but I've only had males and they've all been sweet and easy going so I'm biased (like the majority of anyone who will reply here).

My dog only pees where he isn't supposed to when my mom comes to visit.

And he makes sure to make eye contact with her first. It's strange.
