Well this thread has been nothing but trouble.

I found a cat. I love cats. I call him Cat. I saw these pics and decided I want to turn Cat into a Lazer Eye cat too. It hasn't gone well.

Day 1-

Cat eyes me suspiciously. I think he knows the tuna was a trap. I snuck up on him with two laser pointers and some duct tape while he was eating, but as soon I picked him up to put on his new lazer eyes, he freaked out with a howl and used his claws to play the bongo on my face, a move I call the "Weed Whacker", ten claws at 3,600 RPM on my face. Naturally I shriek, drop the lazers and go screaming into the bathroom. Cat continues to finish his tuna purring while I run cold water over my welt-covered face.

Day 2-

I really hate my neighbors. Bob laughed at my clawmarks. Bobs kids laughed too. Then Bob and Bobs kids invited their friends to come laugh at my claw-face. I have my revenge though. I got an offer from the cable company for a new bundle deal addressed to Bob, but I am just going to throw it away and see how he likes that.

Cat is watching me from the window sill. He clearly knows I'm up to something. So being skilled in engineering, I have affixed the lazers to a collar that slips on his head so the lazers are right over his eyes like blinders for a horse. Closer and closer I creep towards Cat, humming nonchalantly. But Cat and I are locked into a stare. He sees me getting closer and sees the Lazer Hood. I lean forward to look him in the eye, and he does not seem amused. Im not going to get another chance. I drop the hood over him quick!

....
>>
>>2194523

... This is when I realized Cat knows how to use his rear claws also. Cat launches onto my face screeching like a banshee and sinks his teeth into my nose. I scream like a school girl as Cat uses one hind leg to push the hood off, then clings to my neck and does the Weed Whacker on my face again before springing away and hurtling out the living room. After I come out of the bathroom carrying the same bloody rag over my chin, I see Cat nibbling on his tuna. He looks at me and seeing nothing of interest, goes back to his tuna.

Day 3-

I really hate Bob. He says the gauze he gave me was to help, but I noticed him snicker when he handed it to me. I said thanks but I didn't mean it. Im keeping the gauze though.

I have rigged the lazers on a pair of childrens sunglasses that, being a clever engineer, I have bent to fit on Cat's head. I offer Cat a saucer of milk. He looks suspicious, so I set it down and leave the room. Unfortunately, after he works up the nerve to drink the milk, he quickly looks behind him and sees me peeking around the doorway.

I duck back, and wait for the sounds of lapping to resume. I get down and crawl so I am on his level, and slowly sneak up behind him. Closer, closer, almost there and DAMMIT! I touched his tail. Cat turns and looks, eyes full of rage. I know whats coming next.

The doctor takes the bandages off my face as the nurse hands me a bill for the ER. I'm told I am now likely a carrier of toxoplasmosis. Bob is waiting to take me home since I couldn't drive to the ER with a bloody towel on my face. He hands me a helmet his kid made using a salad bowl, a strap and two paper cat-ears. I want to smash him over the head with it, but say thank you, again without meaning it, and he drives me home. I really, really hate Bobs kid.
>>
>>2194525

... Day 4-

Cat eats his tuna and looks at me, then eats some more, ignoring me. I sit in my recliner noticing that my eyes are nearly clotted shut, and squinting back at Cat, realize its almost time to change the bandages. Outside, I hear Bob trimming his weeds while his kids and their friends yell at my window "Catman! Come out and show us ClawFace again!" I hate Bobs kids.

Getting up, squinting through the gauze, I try to feel my way towards the bathroom and trip over cat, landing my face in his milk. I look up, wheezing, and Cat looks at me, then cleans his paws.

After some consideration, this is the point I realize I will never have a cat with cool lazer eyes. Cat begins swatting at some loose, milk and blood soaked gauze, then saunters over to the litter box and watches me while taking a crap.

Laying there watching him stare at me, I have an idea. What if I put some tuna in a box so he cant see me when I put the Lazer Glasses on him. He would never see me coming. Finally, a victory is near for the superior human intellect.

Tomorrow. So help me God, by tomorrow that cat will have cool lazer eyes. Tomorrow, we will meet again, Cat. Tomorrow I will be the winner...

...

Day 5-

I am supposed to be released next week. The nurse has pinned the new bill to my body cast and despite my attempted bribe, they will not take the rail-guards off my bed so I can walk around, something to do with liability associated with blindness. To be fair, I can still see out my left eye somewhat, and the swelling isn't is as bad as it looks, but every bit as painful. I'd like to leave, but somehow, Bob, being a prankster, signed something that allows them to hold me for 72 hours for some sort of evaluation. He has sent me a pic of Cat with cool lazer eyes, I have no idea how he managed to do it, maybe Photoshop.

Until my dentist replaces my front teeth that we're embedded in the floor when the medics arrived, I still can eat Jello through a straw, and will eventually get most of my usage of my left shoulder back, with some therapy. Trying to sprint away from Cat's WeedWhacker while half blind somehow landed the kitchen table on top of me, I don't remember much. I wasn't able to make the rent payment being stuck in the hospital, and the landlord stopped by with some flowers and asked for my keys. My boss says I have two days left or else Im being replaced. I will do my best to show up, but I know this much- that Cat has got to find a new home, and I know just who to give him to.
>>
>>2194528

.... Day 48

UnEmployment Compensation has afforded me a new home, if a bit smaller. I still haven't seen the dentist yet while they determine the presence of toxoplasmosis, but I can still chew on one side and the casts are only two weeks from coming off. But life is good, and today is visiting day. I have been looking forward to it.

Bobby Junior is looking better. He can talk again now that his lips have more or less grown back, but he still has a strong lisp; apparently the tongue didnt re-attach properly. I put my arm around Bob in the hospital room, giving him my sincere condolences. I lay the cat-helmet Bobbymade me on his chest-cast in tribute, suggesting that perhaps my idea that Bobby try it on his cat wasn't such a great plan after all. I assume Bobby was trying to thank me; his heart rate monitor suddenly spiked and the ventilator briefly stalled, so he must have been very happy to get it back.

It's been a long two months and I learned a lot about cats and their lazer eyes. But I think I am done with cats. Besides, to cheer me up, Bob has gotten me a dog as company, something called an "Akita". Tomorrow I will teach him to do tricks as we wrestle in my small new flat right after I pick him up from Bob's.

Its going to be great. I love dogs.

This is terrifying.
>>
>>2194550

Let's just assume hypothetically that an anon is an idiot. Not me, somebody else. Definitely not me though:

Does anyone know what the physics here are? I know a little about cat eyes in that I think they are dichromats, and something about the eye shape appears to amplify light.

But what are we seeing when all that light comes out of their eyes? I noticed in the pic you mentioned you can even see it reflecting off the hood of the car.

If I assume the light that is being reflected is much broader in source than the apparent 2D surface area of the eye reflecting it, then maybe I can account for the brightness. But I cant account for the light itself. What is reflecting it and from where?

I can google it, I guess. But I thought maybe someone here could put it in simpler terms.

Best in thread

To my knowledge it has to do with their being able to see in the dark. There are structures in their eyes that reflect the light to make them see better, sort of like mirrors. This is meant to work in low light, so in the darkness when they're hit with a bright beam of light, their eyes glow like that.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong; I'm too lazy to look this up.

do cats do the sideway walk thing to appear bigger and more threatening? I mostly see kittens do it playfully or cats who have been spooked by something.
>>
>>2195255

Thank you!!! That is helpful. I searched it, and it looks like I will have a lot to learn. Having the right keyword helps a lot when trying to pull information from the web if you dont even have the right terms.

:)

>>2195012

Thanks. I understood the concept (somewhat) but not the particulars. The other anon gave me a great keyword which will help a lot. Just searching 'glowing cat eyes' was surprisingly not very informative, or gave explanations that were too vague to really comprehend.

I wonder if it is at all similar to humans getting red-eye in photos. I somehow doubt it.

Many thanks again all. I appreciate it.
