I really want a cat. i live in a little apartment though, 30m2 / 322sqft. I want to spend a lot of time with the cat, but also be able to sleep another place for 1 night. Is this feasible? i would love to be able to play fetch with it, but i am mostly looking for a very affectionate cat than wants to cuddle/lie near me.
Can you recommend any breeds? i thought a lot about getting a kitten from a shelter, but its hard to know what you get when its been through so much and if it will be suited to live indoors.
>>
Sleeping elsewhere sometimes isn't going to be an issue, though a kitten will need to be confined to a safe room while you're away. The size of the apartment isn't a problem either, you can try using cat trees and furniture to maximise the vertical space, which cats enjoy more than floor space anyway.

If you want a purebred cat, then absolutely, go for it, but most shelter kittens aren't traumatised shells that have been rescued from some kind of grim torture-dungeon. They're just kittens from strays that have been brought in, or kittens surrendered by someone who didn't bother spaying their cat, and they tend to have quite a good start in life as shelters are usually fairly conscientious about socialising them and making sure they're dewormed and have their shots. Though if you want a cuddly, affectionate cat, you're probably better off looking for an adult as kittens tend not to settle down for a couple of years, and then their adult personality may turn out to be rather aloof or independent or very active.

Gotta agree with this; if you want a cuddle buddy, look for a cuddly adult and don't settle for a grown cat that isn't cuddly. Kittens are active and rather play with your toes than lay in bed with you
>>
A rescue cat will more than likely love you for the soul purpose that you gave them a home, but the best cats fr cuddling are bombays and ragdolls. Ragdolls will let you do anything and are very fluffy, but if you also want an energetic cat, I would go with bombay. I have always had bombay cats and I love them. Male cats generally seem to be more loving than female cats, not sure why, but before you go breed hunting, check the shelters or any local cat colonies.
>>
Don't get one. They viciously attack feet. :) Always feet nothing else. Oh and they will climb your curtains and stalk you through the house anytime you have an sort of can.

Personality is not based on gender. Males and females are equally affectionate.
>>
i have fallen in love with the abyssinian and burmese breeds. They do seem very similiar though, are there anyone who could tell me how they differ?

Abyssinians are the best looking cats in the world

you should get an adult cat since it's not good to leave a kitten alone overnight. a kitten will be a hyperactive maniac for the first year or so and may or may not be cuddly as an adult.

get an adult: calmer and you can pick out the traits you want!

Abbysinnians are more "sporty", while Burmese are more couch potatoes.

Abbys needs lot of exercise and interaction. They want to play and stalk toys all day. The probably wouldn't do very well as a single pet. Especially if you are gone 8+ hrs a day. But if you love the breed and want one, get a senior.

Burmese are calmer and more affectionate. They like to play too, but it more low key than the Abby's style of play (KILL IT!!! THROW YOURSELF AROUND THE ROOM! CLIMB THE WALLS!!) They also do well with other pets and kids, they are less reactionary.

burmese cant live alone though, you need atleast 2 cats
>>
>>2179277
The ones I have met weren't too clingy. I think a Burmese would be a better fit than an Abby hands down.
An older male (especially an ex show/ breeding cat) would probably be fine as an only pet.

Had one. They are really affectionate. Used to pick it up and it would Burrough hits head in my shoulder and actually hugged. Expensive tho.

sounds awesome
was he ok being home alone, and how hyperactive was he?
>>
I'm in the same situation, looking to get a Maine Coon. They are pretty big, will they have any issues staying in a 500 sqft apartment? I work a 9-5, but probably could come home for lunch to feed it midday.
>>
This is silly. Instead of adopting a purebred kitten and hoping it will be okay in the apartment alone just get an adult cat that you know the personality of.

Males of any species always seem chiller/friendlier than females to me too.
