Standard poodles are all-around good dogs, doberman pinschers are highly trainable and clingy (which can be a positive or negative trait), flatcoated retrievers are calm and sweet, border collies are highly intelligent and driven workers, and a well-trained and well-bred German shepherd is a beautiful thing.

Honestly, it depends on what you're looking for in a dog. I think a poodle would fit almost anyone's needs, if it weren't for the grooming requirements. Personally, I think a doberman pinscher is right for me.

This. Especially rescue ones. There's nothing better than a shy, scared rescue dog slowly learning to trust you and see you as his saviour.

No pic, but I've got a black and white terrier mix. 12 years old, no health issues whatsoever, playful as a puppy, always keeps me on my toes with her charm and intelligence.

>>
I think my favorite are boxers and labs
Those dogs are just pure unconditional love
>>
>>2170676
I have a story about a boxer. Meanest fuck I've ever seen in my life. He came into the vet clinic for his vaccines, bit both owners before they got him inside. He was snarling and lunging. It took two leashes held taut on either end of him to get him in without him being able to dive for anyone. In the back, the technician had to put him in the operating room and hold the door shut, with the leash through the crack. That fucker was trying to get her through the door.

He was so out of control, and apparently was like this at home with his owners, that what was a vaccine appointment quickly turned into a euthanasia.

Kind of wish he had managed to bite the technician first, she was a cunt.
>>
>>2170576
Poodles are the best. Ive always wanted a standard size. They are generally very kind as well.
>>
>>2170576
i've really begun to love poodles since maybe 8 or 9 months ago. my only concern is, they seem to get a lot of saggy neck skin when they're older. is that something they all get after a certain age or have i just seem atypical poodles?
>>
>>2171087
My family has always owned poodles (miniatures) and we've never noticed our dogs getting saggy necks. Probably it's attributed to lack of exercise.

For me, it's the chow. Not a clingy dog (which can be good depending on you), but undeniably loyal. Will protect you no matter what.

I gotta admit, though, that they have to be well trained to respect you or else they will "take charge" of everything and become a nightmare. Not good for hot climates either.

Also cutest puppies ever.

>virtually no health problems compared to other breeds
>super loyal and generally friendly with other people

they can be dog aggressive yeah but if you socialize them well/aren't a fucking retard it shouldn't be too much of an issue

also mutts
>>

Retrievers or shepherds.
Personal best experience was with an Aussie.
>>
>>2174032
I won't yell at you but
4/7 "traits" listed are dog specific and not breed specific. The other 3, wiggles, grooming, health issues aren't exclusive to that breed either.
They're a wonderful choice for many a great reason.
>>
Border collies especially but you really can't go wrong with most sporting or herding dogs.

Overbred, overrated meme dogs.

Overbreeding has ruined them and now they're just a fashion accessory when they belong as military/police dogs
>>
>>2174032
Nigger dogs, plain and simple.
No matter how much you try and shill the "nice friendly dog" meme, pits are nigger dogs who are more often than not owned by people who shouldn't own a pet, aren't trained right and will never, ever lose that reputation.

Just like Rotts will always have their stigma, Pits will always be the violent dog of niggers

I'll just assume this is relevant to the thread, but what kind of dog would be best and the least dangerous towards my cats? I have 2 cats that were both strays and are relatively skittish and usually avoid most confrontation and frequently hide for no reason. We're getting a dog soon and I'd like to know if there is a "best dog" for this kind of stuff. Help pl0x?
>>
>>2175069

IT'S NOT AN IRISH WOLFHOUND MIX
>>
>>2176702
shelters usually list which dogs are cat friendly, as in they are known to have lived with cats before.
>>
>>2176702
Last dog we had was a purebred Blue Tick Coonhound that we pretty much got on impulse and he was practically 100% prey drive when he saw our cats. If we didn't have a muzzle we wouldn't have cats anymore that's for sure so we had to re-home him. We're seemingly unable to find a dog that was so chillax around our cats and I'm desperate for the right dog.
>>
>>2176710
Yea we've been going to a few but the one coonhound we got was listed cat friendly and bam he wanted them in his belly. Another shelter had a dog listed CF and it sure didn't act like it when we asked for a demonstration. On the other hand they had 2 more dogs that are amazing and one just ignored the cat even as it swatted at him and the other we don't really know his disposition.
>>
>>2176702
It's entirely the dog, not the breed. Socialization from a young age is more the key than a particular breed.
>>
>>2170424

Unless you're a fan of nocturnal dogs, I wouldn't. They're friendly but not ideal for inexperienced dog owners.

You literally only need something with a deep, impressive bark.

For example my gf's folks have a big Italian Spinone. Daft as fuck and loving but hella protective of the property - ie rushes to the window or gate when someone passes and barks like an absolute madman. Hes rad as fuck but was intimidating when i first met him.
>>

Rottweilers are great family dogs. They're intimidating to most people and have a natural guarding instinct but every one I've met has been a massive goofball who just wanted kisses and pats
