Can we brainstorm some possible breeds for my family, grew up with Dobermans. Im looking for a companion/family guardian that isnt so neurotic and will go out in the rain. I take my dogs to proffesional obedience and they go to a training/dog daycare twice a week so any breed is a possiblity, I want my wife and children to feel secure when I am not around if I have to work late, we live on approx 1/4 acre. I am already leaning towards a Cane Corso.

Pic related. Best pet for having round kids, period.

Cane corso is a good choice. You might also want to look into Leonbergers, they're awesome dogs.

Oh, I forgot one: Tamaskan dogs, there are not many people who breed one, but if you can find a reputable breeder, they're definitely worth looking into.

Cane corsos are fucking assholes. They were some of the worst dogs to come in when I worked at an animal hospital. They always, ALWAYS, were a "caution" in their charts, because they were always aggressive toward either people or other dogs.

If you want something intelligent and obedient, standard poodle. You can cut their fur so they don't look like sissies. If you want a big intimidating teddy bear, English mastiff or a Newfoundland. Personally I'd lean toward the newfie, they're enormous and have an intimidating bark, but are super sweet.

If you want an actual guard, I've seen rottweilers in action, they're pretty good.

Newfoundlands and golden retrievers are both gentle and good with kids.
>>
Boston Terriers, hands down. I have 20 month twins and a newborn and they are so patient with the babies.
>>
golden retrievers are soft and need love
