Is there such a thing? I'd like a pet, a dog or cat might be impossible at this point because I don't live on my own and the other people in the house don't approve.

A bird would be nice though, and I don't think it'd cause any problems with my family. I am willing to build a decent sized bird house for it and take care of it every day, but i'd prefer it if it could live outside in the garden (I live in england and temperatures rarely drop below -2/-3C in the winter, sometimes go over 25C in the summer).

Does anyone have any recommendations? I have never owned a pet so that's why I'm asking here

I mean I don't know how humane it'd be to trap a bird in a bird house outside for the rest of its life but you could build a bird house that's not locked and fill it with food and a bird might inhabit it and start a family in there. Sprinkle some seeds on your yard and then leading to your bird house with a lot of seeds in your bird house as well. Make sure the house is set up in a place that's away from areas where predators might be able to get them

Also having other plants in your yard like bushes trees and flowers can also attract birds

Having a source of running water will also be very beneficial. I'm sure you could find a reasonably priced bird bath

Oh yeah I don't want to trap it. I'd let it out and hopefully there's ways of training it to return to the house each day

There's some birds living in trees near my house, I could try attract them into nesting in my birdhouse I guess

what? just get a bird feeder you'd attract birds every day without the hassle of having to take care of all their needs.

That's exactly what this guy did:

It's basically a decorated bird feeder with a camera attached to it. Birds come and go and some juncos recently fledged from the nest you can currently see. I think this is a very good way of getting closer to wild animals without disrupting their life too much
