I browse craigslist pet ads whenever I'm bored, and it always kills me that people give up puppies after thinking they can juggle 4 kids and jobs.

Poor pups though.

I don't know if I'll ever find the picture again, but "Cages for Fish" is probably my favorite. Guy was selling bird cages.

Puppies in my pic are "ready to go" at 4 weeks which is horrible. Plus they're pits, why anyone would ever buy a pitty off craigslist is still a wonder to me.

There was a bit of a caper in my town in which some dog was stolen from its owner at the mall. The owner had tied it up and went inside to lay down a piss and when they got back out the dog had been stolen (apparently he was gone for 4 minutes according to surveillance). The dog was then found on Kijiji and craigslist ads saying that the sellers found her in a different town couldn't find their owners and were selling it for $600 or so. I did not save the original ad apparently, but when the pet owners' association figured out what happened and the police were involved their story changed to them being the heroes.

Kind of a scum bag move, but it makes me assume half the ads online are just stolen pets getting sold off for easy money.

As a humourous aside the perpetrator in this case was a literal midget.

Is this a thing? Is it somehow considered more couth to say "rehoming fee" instead of "I don't want this animal anymore but I want you to pay me to take it off my hands to help cut my losses"? Is this the pet owner's equivalent of "my wife's son"?

This. I live in Texas, one hour from Shreveport. Had a guy bring a baby gator to my job. He said he bought it in Kentucky (or Kansas? Can't remember) but he was complaining about all the trouble he had to go through when he moved down here.

Because they're very common in Louisiana and raised on farms. People here understand they're not a pet and the law reflects that.

That being said, I've known people to feed a gator and it would come running whenever they called for it. Not a very smart move on their part.

Remember, craigslist doesn't allow the breeding or sale of animals, and if the person selling the animal says "there's a rehoming fee" but doesn't say what it is or wants you to contact them for it, or if the "rehoming fee" is outrageous, they can and should be flagged for removal.

it's funny. I do regular flagging sprees on BYBs and they get pissy and post things like "you're KILLING these puppies who JUST WANT GOOD HOMES if I don't sell them they'll have to go to a SHELTER and you wouldn't want THAT would you!???"

I got my dog from Craigslist last week. Was wary of getting fucked badly, but the family was really nice and they had to rehome due to their autistic kid hurting him.

I'm amazed by how intelligent and well trained he is.
