thanks for starting s new one

can someone help me Identify this Myrmecodia?

Is it M. beccarii?

Saw it randomly at a plant nursery, it wasn't even labled and they apparently didn't know what they were selling
>>
Could somebody help identify a plant from description?
It flowers like a sunflower but smaller and more intense with different colours. It has dark green waxy leaves which are slightly succulent and forms a short shrub. They grow and flower in autumn in a warm temperate climate if that helps.

Anybody here tried grafting?
It's been about 4 days since I grafted a 5 month old seedling to the stock and it hasn't started rotting so hopefully it was a success.
Trying to cut a 1mm plant without just bursting it was pretty difficult.
>>
>>2136527
That's insane, bro! Serious waste of effort for a succulent that'll just root itself.

As for grafting

I've seen a bunch of grapes graft onto a single plant...imagine it's a money maker for some plants.

>>
>>2136527

I've done a number of woody grafts (mainly fruit) and T budding as part of my horticultural training (even got a snazzy tina knife for it) but never succulent or cactus grafts. Grafts can be deceiving and partially rejected grafts can just pop off after years of seemingly successful growth, particularly in woody species.

Sarracenia, Nepenthes, Heliamphora or Cephalotus?
VFTs need:
>6+ hours of strong direct sun during growing season (NOT A HOUSEPLANT)
>need to kept very wet with distilled or water with a low TDS count (Doesn't really tolerate Cl- though)
>Don't poke the damn traps
>They dont need a cool winter, they just need a substantial reduction in the photoperiod of the day to trigger dormancy
>>
>>2137422
I will add a couple of things:
-About the watering: they have tendency to rot if they are always damp BUT they dehydrate so damn fast. Best thing you can do is try to figure out how much you should water them depending on your weather.
-They grow better when crammed together, I don't know why but it's true.
-You should pull them out of the substrate every year, they dig themselves to death.
-Flowering weakens them. A lot. And the flowers are ugly and the seedlings take an eternity to grow. Cut that shit off, they clone themselves anyway.
-Best substrates are 50% perlite or aquarium sand and 50% peat moss, 1/3 perlite, 1/3 peat, 1/3 pine leaves, dry sphagnum or, if you live in a moist area, live sphagnum which is what has given me better results.
-If you want a cultivar I'd only recommend sawtooth to start, the rest are a bit more delicate
>>

>>
>>2137411
>Venus fly trap
I use turf/peat as soil.
I use de-mineralised water and rain water.
they need to be put in cooler for 4 months at the winter at 6° Celsius.
Do not poke the traps or put objects in it.
They require life bait and never put normal meat in the traps because that would rot.
Most Fly traps will catch their own food.
So place it outside, never below 15° Celsius.
They flower at a period from February to April.
You can remove the flowers by cutting it off as that would increase the growth of the traps.

What the fuck happened to my baby parlour palm?

Im pretty sure it was a sunburn because the white/yellow spots appeared immediately my father left it on the sun the whole day and the bottom side of the leaves are clearly greener.
I mean I know they don't like sun too much but what the fuck this is supposed to be the easiest plant to take care of.
Is that it? You give a plant a few more hours on the sun that it wants and it fucking dies?

Come on why does it feel so hard? Zero possible communication, when you are doing something wrong I realise when it's too late and everything is fucked. It doesn't help that the symptoms of underwatering and overeatering are very similar on chamaedorea elegans.
What am I supposed to do, keep them locked up so noone touches them? Pay someone who actually knows what they are doing? Fuck up enough times until i develop sensibility to understand problems?

When I built my house I had to cut in to one side of the tree to make room for an addition. Once that was done I gave it a very deep prune. It takes about 5 years for a hard maple to fill back out, when it does it will look better.
This is what it looked like when I first bought the place.

That's what they look like after they've been topped and pruned down. It's actually pretty common where I live to do this in order to keep the trees out of power lines or too close to houses like mine. I guess that's why it doesn't bother me as much, I see it everywhere else.
Believe me I've no problem dropping a tree, I cut down over a dozen since I started working on the place.

I've seen them clump out like that right before they spread. If you can clear some out of that pot to make way for new growth, and keep doing whatever you are doing, they are healthy and thriving.
>>
>>2139761
I'm not a fan of ampullaria, so I can only imagine how shit that hybrid would be. Amp is far too dominant in hybrids, and RC is a recessive pussy that gets overpowered by anything without extreme or complementary features. You'd just get a big-pitchered ampullaria with browner, less-saturated colouration...
>>
>>2139770
I figured that. I've been wanting to make that hybrid just for shits and giggles and who knows, maybe it'll turn into a hilarious plant. it's highly unlikely the seeds will even be fertile anyways. Really want another RC but I'm a broke college student and parents won't float me money

I'm sure it would be a very easy plant, and any self-made hybrid will automatically be nice (I still haven't successfully made one, but I'd be proud of any shit combination that presented itself). And I don't know, most things beside overly-TCed ventrata, mixta, Miranda etc. should have decent fertility. And I expanded my Nep collection by just buying less food and no alcohol/unnecessaries - admittedly I was a greedy fat fuck before, but now that I waste money on plants instead I'm in way better shape and have a sick niche hobby.
>>2139775
Right, because robcantleyi already has big teeth so an extremely-toothy hamata compliments it nicely. Likewise, wide-peristomed ovata works nicely with RC, as does a deep red, slightly-toothy species like densiflora (pic related, not mine).

Yes they do, but usually after a few years, mine are only like 2 y.o
If it is a clump of newborns then that's quite odd because it has never spread like that before, you just get chicks sprouting all around the hens right in the ground or with stems.
Or maybe is it happening because there is no more room in my pot?
Anyways if you've already seen that, do you know what this is gonna look like in the near future? should I prepare a new pot?

Also do you guys think I should upgrade to an even larger pot so they can keep on spreading ? I already upgraded like 2 months ago and it somehow covered the whole surface. I don't really know what to do next,I only know I want to have more and more of them. Gigantic pot or spread the whole family in a larger number of pots and trying not to fuck up the roots too bad?
>>
>>2139790
They look like petunias. They are probably root bound pretty bad by now as well if they are in the store pot, this is normal.
Partial sun, water morning and night, and no they won't come back next year, but they should keep their blooms until fall.
>>
>>2139794
I wouldn't repot them, just pull some out to make room for new growth.
I wouldn't worry too much about the roots either, it's more important that they don't get covered up.
>>
>>2139790
I forgot to add, look in the pot for an ID tag stuck in the dirt. It should have all the info you need as well. Good luck.
>>
>>2139790
those are petunias anon. Nice easy flowers. As another anon said, they wont come back next year, but I wouldnt bother re-potting them, they dont mind being root bound. Give them plenty of water, they are thirsty as a mofo in peak season (now), and deadhead spent flowers to prolong flowering time. Good luck!

I was trying a new substrate: Live moss on top, peat moss underneath, but to keep the moss alive like this I had to water them a lot, and the roots of some plants started to rot.
Then I moved them to moss 100% and it turned out that moss was rotten.
I moved them again to peat and sand, but overestimated how much humidity that mix could retain and they dehydrated.
That summer I lost 40% of my dionaea, the only cultivar that survived was half of a sawtooth.

I live in Austria
And it´s absolutely not normal for any kind of nursery/plants tore to sell Myrmecodia, that´s why I HAD to get one

I walked past it at first, because it was not labled in any way.
But after passing thse Plants, I thought to myself "wait a second, I know what this is"

After inspecting a few, I even found two that were blooming, well, had bloomed shortly before, the flowers were white-transparent, that´s why I thought of beccarii

I should have taken more of them, considering they were relatively cheap.
I´m still thinking about going back for one or two more

But good Idea, I´ll contact Andreas Witsuba, but I´ll have to take better pics first

Yeah I agree, Wistuba's probably your best bet, he seems to be a current authority on ant plants. You'll probably get a solid ID (assuming he's not on an expedition).
And I'd probably go back desu, they're an absurdly cool find and they presumably only ended up there through unfortunate or unusual circumstances on their part.

>>
>>2143302
Good airflow, well draining soil, minimizing root disturbance, and keeping the roots well above the water table seem to keep them happy. It's not obvious in the picture but since I keep it in a shorter pot, I create a little "hill" with the soil to keep it out of the water tray. It looked miserable when I first bought it a year ago but since it recovered it's been one of my more resilient plants

Well I read it everywhere... but caresheets are often worng.
I kept two: one in a sand and peat moss mix, the pot was black but I taped aome reflective sun reflector to prevent it from overheating, the other one was kept in live moss in an orchid pot. They were growing fine for months until October when they both died one week apart.

Hi guys, I'm really new here, but I think I'll ask here, because this is like the grower's general, it seems.

My family is a bunch of growers, my mother could grow dog shit to extreme heights, literally anything she gets grows like crazy. Except for poisonous plants. Foxglove? Died in a month. Monkshood? Same fate. Delphinia? Same.

I love the look of monkshood flowers, that is why I want to grow them. I have bought one in a garden shop, put it in a large pot and I'm going to take good care of it so that I can enjoy it (and perhaps consider suicide - hey, it's 4chan). My question is: Can I grow it in a pot indoors? Will it be dangerous in any way if I have it in my room?

P.S.: To keep the ratio of good:bad in balance, I have mint, stevia, mint, and other good plants in a pot next to the monkshood (different pot).

aconitums thrive in well-draining semi-fertile soil, if it's too wet it'll drown, if it's too dry it'll shrivel up and if it's too fertile it'll get leggy as fuck.

I think you meaan delphinium.

they're terrible decorative plants, mainly because they're sold as perennials so people expect them to come back the next year, but they usually don't, they're extremely short lived, even if they're thriving they're not going to live much longer than 3 years.

and they're pretty much always eaten by grubs or snails unless you dump a fuck ton of pesticides on them.

also aconitums do poorly indoors and they require dormancy.

Don't have a dedicated part of the garden that's inaccessible to your pets (e.g. by fence like I have it)? Got 2 doges and they'd piss all over the crops if they weren't fenced away

Nah, my turtles can go anywhere they want. In truth, the primary reason I planted the strawberries was for the turtles to eat. I hoped to get a few myself but oh well.

Also I posted my monster aloe vera before- it has now grown two of these strange flower-stalk looking things.

To add onto this post:

Ever since I visited the Marie Selby botanical gardens in Sarasota, FL, I've wanted a pink Caladium garden like they had.

Pic related, so pretty.

I potted some stuff today. Good enough for a page 6 bump.

We're over the bump limit.

We are now faggot.

Yeah, it may have been a fungal infection or crown rot. With this plant it's hard to tell since it takes months for it to just shit itself after something goes wrong

Hello, /plant/. I am new to this board, so please, bare with me, because I am going to say really stupid things.

If someone could help me out, I need some tips so tomorrow I can pretend to know gardening.

I am an actor and I only need like 20 seconds of doing something with a small plant. I can only think of moving the dirt beneath and having a water sprayer. But I'd like to know what I'm pretending to be doing, because anyone can tell if I'm just being a phony and fucking around with a plant until I get my dialogue.

Sorry for this mess of a post. Thank you so much in advance, and sorry for the long post.

Could you be planting the plant? For instance, digging a hole and putting the plant in it, and covering the hole back up.

Otherwise, I would suggest [pretending to] trim the plant. Just have a pair of scissors and pretend to cut off dead leaves/limbs from the plant.
>>
Also I went ahead and started up a new thread since this one was on page 10:

First of all, thank you so much for trying to help.

I think I'll pretend to be trimming. Seems easy enough if I get a plant with lots of leaves.

Thanks again, before the thread goes 404.
