Where is the boundary between man and beast?
>>
>>2129760
There is none
>>
>>2129760
Man, africans/aboriginals, beast
>>
People are animals so there isn't one?

Just because people have "morals" doesn't mean they will die any slower from a tiger or whatever. To other animals we may as well just be slower naked monkeys to them.
>>
Let me clarify. I meant the boundary between the genus homo and everything else.
>>
>>2130221
B-but muh human exceptionalism...
>>
>>2130233
Humans clearly are exceptional though - what other species can say it's evolved to a point where it can sit around and shitpost on /an/ all day? Whether or not that's a good thing is another matter.

Some other animals do it.
>>
>>2130224
I think it's usually agreed upon that habilis is that border. They always argue wether is very early Homo or not Homo at all.
>>
>>2130297
Hasn't that become more of a blanket taxon because they all look so damn similar to other species?
>>
>>2129760
Turks
>>
It's arbitrary really.

>thinks paleontologists classify animals by looks
an extremely common mistake on /an/

Well considering the specimens aren't exactly fresh from the market, I think it'd be a little hard finding mitochondrial dna.
>>
>>2130347
most of those were classified by the folds on their molars.
>>
>>2130350
Similar diets=similar relatives? Sounds good to me.
>>
>>2130362
no.
the folds of the molar have nothing to do with diet.
>>
>>2130365
How so? From my understanding, when looking at the folds of the molar means that you're either looking for DNA or seeing how its molars were worn down.
>>
>>2130409
the folds and bumps are like fingerprints for the species. Your molars have mostly the same folds and bumps as every other human alive.

Different species had different folds, just a part of variation over time. Conveniently teeth are also one of the more common fossils to find, they're very compact and protected by enamel.

so lots of mammal species are identifiable by the shape of their teeth. Homo species in particular are classified by teeth. In a lot of cases teeth are all we have to compare at first.

Fair enough.
