Was doing research stuff on freshwater amphipods and one of my samples had these little six legged critters floating on the water surface.
They are about 1 to 2 mm long. Found at lake Waihola newzealand. Are they some sort of insect larval stage?
Photo was taken through the lens of a dissecting microscope.
Here is a video. It is very shaky. It was difficult to take a stable video, as I was recording this with a tablet camera.
