can anybody help me ID these bird remains?

found on a beach in Charleston, South Carolina

I regret not getting a better picture of the feet or the underside. Looks like some kind of wading bird to me but I am not aware of any wading birds of that size and brownish color. I also don't know if the weird brownish plumage is just an artifact of baking in the sun for god knows how long.
>>
>>2094700
Stabby beak makes me think of a cormorant.... but the ones I've seen didn't have any white. Could be a juvenile bird of some kind because its back is rather downy-looking. Don't see much in the way of adult tail feathers either.
>>
>>2094705

cormorants have hooked beaks. you might be thinking of an anhinga, which i have considered, but it's too big to be either and the head isn't long/skinny enough to be an anhinga. sorry the picture doesn't have a good sense of scale; the beak was about 3.5 inches long

i too was thinking it might be a juvenile something or other, but i can't find anything it looks like on google. things that share the same general shape that i know we have around here are great blue herons, tricolor herons, and great egrets, but it doesnt look like a juvenile of any of those, at least based on what i can find on google
>>
>>2094707
Well I'll be damned. I guess I never looked close enough at a cormorant. You're right, of course.

That looks like a booby bird. The species is unidentifiable because of its decay, though. Quite a rare sight in South Carolina, it must have just been already dead when it drifted on to your beach.

It's "The Cockatiel Handbook" by Matthew M. Vriends. I think it might be kind of outdated though, since it says to feed cockatiels mostly seed when it's mostly pellets you should feed them. Also, cockatiels do not need (and shouldn't be given) grit.
This page might be helpful for you too:

Thanks a bunch of saying my tiel is gorgeous by the way! I was super happy and showed my mother and brother your post too. She is indeed a lutino, and she's very sweet.
>>
>>2095257

my grandfather found one as a chick and tamed it, and though it lived outside in the wild. it would come and hang with him most of the time, so I guess it can be done but it would take alot of time and effort and I doubt they can fully tamed, and you probably need to live in the rural setting.
I found a baby tawny owl some years ago, got it back up in its nest but holy shit cutest thing ever, it was so affectionate, I really wanted to keep it.

My keets just won't bond with me. I been trying for almost a year now, they don't like any treats enough to come to me for it.

They would step up and stand on my shoulders sometimes, but they always try to get back to their cage the first chance they get. When I give them out of cage time all they neglect to add me to their play time.

Often quiet. Mine typically made noise during the morning. If you play music around them or have some sort of noise constantly running they'll likely become chatty more often.

I had a similar experience after we got our second keet.

First keet, by herself, was very friendly and played with us. She hopped around and jumped all over us. As my partner and I got busier with classes and such, we felt bad leaving a social creature alone for hours and hours everyday, so we got another female.

After they became friendly with one another and shared a house, first keet doesn't really play with us anymore like she used to. Second doesn't really either.

I tell myself that it's for the best, since we weren't at home enough anymore.

A vulture is a poor man's condor.

Not sure how relevant this is, but I've built a new coop for my chickens and I'm worried about rats. I only had one before so we kept her in a rabbit hutch and just let her run around the yard during the day, and rats weren't an issue. But now I've got eleven chickens in an 8'x6' non-elevated run and I'm worried that rats will cause problems. The places is pretty much just a box now, of chicken wire on a pine frame, and I didn't really consider the rats when building it. Is this likely to be a big problem, and what ought I do to deal with it?

Get a green cheek conure, I have one and he screams like a maniac but only when he's hungry. Then it's back to being quiet.

A while ago I found a crow kicking a ping pong ball around a parking lot by itself. How can I invite myself to play soccer with crows

Why aren't corvids more common pet? I mean they are cool, smart and dressing in black is timeless. Are they seen too common in western countries? Is their smarts a bad trait for pet? What gives?

I got my very first tiels about 3 weeks ago, and they've just started getting comfortable with my hand to step up. They're little shits but I love them to death already.

The smarter the bird the most mental interaction it needs, else it becomes destructive to itself and its environment.

What if you gave it a tiny pachiko machine in addition to the other usual bird toys and parrot levels of interaction

I always figured it's because it's a bit of a street bird. It'd be like keeping pet pigeons, why bother? There's like fifty of them roosting on your balcony RIGHT NOW.

Any ornithology anons here? I'm visiting from /ic/, in the market for birds so I can study their wings, I need this first-hand research and observation for a project, and would appreciate some clarification on what it would take to get my hands on some freshly dead birbs to fondle, and what I can expect.

>What's the biggest bird an average person can acquire legally?
>Who do you contact to acquire a cadaver of such a bird?
>Is it possible to acquire their cadaver fresh, or do they come preserved with their joints still flexible?
>What should I do to make the cadaver last?
>Should I just visit the local museum, or a local ecology institute? Would the folks there feel flattered or get annoyed if an illustrator was asking if they could fondle their dead birds?

I hope I'm in the right thread

Are Bugies first good birds?

They're only about £20 in pet stores, but those are adults. Don't you have to get birds when they're young or they will hate you?

My cockatiel sleeps with me in my room and lately it's been getting extremely hot (I live in the Middle East), I can't turn the AC on since the room will get too cold for her to comfortably sleep so I decided to use a fan on lowest settings
How much will the noise produced by the fan affect her sleep?
Should I move her to another room? The problem is, my parents stay up very late and smoke the narjeeleh, so I keep her in my room since it's more quiet than every other room and smoke free

>How much will the noise produced by the fan affect her sleep?
not much if it's fairly low and consistent. Id be more worried about the air blowing on her tho.

>I can't turn the AC on since the room will get too cold
is there only one setting? does it not shut off automatically?

the fan is placed at the center of the and aimed towards my bed so there's not much air being blown on to her
As for the AC then no, it keeps going no matter how cold it gets
And the hottest setting(on cold mode) is still too cold for my bird

>parents smoke in the house
>having a bird
Put a towel under the door or something, and open a window or two in the house if you can.
Smoke is super terrible for birds.
The noise might be annoying to them, but they should get some sleep.
