Gotta love Caiques!

There are my two Cookie (left) and Muffin (right). I only let them sleep together one or two times per week. I keep them flighted and have tons of fun and shenanigans with them every day.

They are both one and a half years old and Muffin is a girl and Cookie is a boy, Muffin has lost the black on her head now this picture is a year old.

Here's another one of them before they got woken up by me taking pictures. These pictures were very hard to take cause it was very dark in the room (used 0.3 second exposure time handheld f/1.8 1600ISO).

I love my Caiques so much I wouldn't trade them for the world <3

Funnily enough, for some crazy unknown reason Muffin always sleeps facing forward out of the tunnel and Cookie always sleeps facing backward into the tunnel thus showing his butt. They sleep with those facings regardless whether or not they are sleeping alone or together. Sometimes I'm scared to think of what would have happened if both of them preferred sleeping in the same direction! haha...

You should definitely not risk it. My Caiques turn into totally wild animals with mindless bloodlust if there is any Cockatiel in sight anywhere near. They also want budgies dead. I tried exposing them to Cockatiels and budgies from a very young age (I got my Caiques as weaned babies) and they're totally fine with Conures but not Cockatiels and Budgies. One of my Budgies' beaks got irreparably torn in half and I had to rush to the vet.

Maybe they're just xenophobic against Australian birds, amirite?

Anyway, older Caiques are in general even less receptive of new bird family members so I wouldn't do it if I were you. Unless you plan strict separation and have time to juggle two separate relationships.

I don't have pictures, but I kinda had a bird forced on me about a week ago.

>want to get more rats, so grab the ferret cage out of the basement of my parent's house
>wash it real clean outside with the hose and leave it open outside to dry
>come back and see there's a bird in there
>do some internet searches and find out it's a standard green cheek conure
>he's really friendly, so I take him and the cage inside
>start looking around for lost bird notices, find a matching poster
>have lady tell me on phone that it's her mom's bird, but her mom released it into the wild because she didn't want it anymore
>she's relieved he's safe, but refuses to come and take him back, tells me to take him to a shelter if I don't want him

I'm not sure what to do because the bird is really friendly and has already started bonding to me, and I like him, but I don't know the first thing about birds and I wanted a trio of rats to start with.

Keep it. Birds are love. I'm sure he will become a great pet. The poor guy has a very very high chance of dying in the wild he was extremely lucky to be found and taken in by you. Releasing these guys is pretty much killing them.

They're lovely! I'm guessing they're still quite young, looking at the colours on their heads.

My BHC is fully flighted too, I love the helicopter sound they make when they're flying. She can be a bit hormonal but I adore her.

Oh I know how aggressive they can be to other birds. I've heard of them going after Macaws, the silly things.

It's way too late to introduce her to another species, but at least she gets all of my attention.
