Wings. They're for displays/warnings.
Probably is pretending to be an ant, a lot of walkingsticks do that because most animals completely ignore ants and dont eat them.

>Peruphasma schultei
>Peruphasma schultei is a species of stick insect found in the Cordillera del Condor region of northern Peru. In the wild the insect feeds on Schinus plants, but will feed on privet and honeysuckle in captivity. In Peru they are only known to exist in a region of less than 5 hectares, but since their discovery they have become increasingly popular as pets worldwide due to their unusual colouration and they are now bred regularly in captivity.
>5 hectares
Jesus, talk about a tiny ecological niche.

>5 hectares = 12 acres
damn
These guys are pretty neat. I got to care for one over the summer for my school's entomology department. I would hazard OP's is a nymph as is common for stick insects to have a curled tail in the earlier stages.

That's a really fat stick insect
>>2043505
It has wings, it's an adult

wow, that's incredible. they look sorta cute when you get past the edgy coloration.
That's such a confused appearance. It's like five different things at once.

Stick insects start out the same size as ants. Typically the female throws the eggs on the ground and the ants bring them underground. So yeah, it's a thing.
It's cute
