Hey /an/. So my dad brought this turtle and I really don't know what type of turtle is and what food to give it. Anything I should know about it?

sometimes i think turtles shouldn't be pets because these guys can live 50+ years depending on the species and people just buy them without even knowing what the hell to feed them
the fact that your father bought it without any idea what it might even remotely ingest is a little terrifying

edit: read brought as bought
holy shit but my point still stands put that back let it live a happy life in the wild

>let it live a happy life in the wild
it's very likely an invasive species that should be culled.

It is a Yellow Bellied Slider.
All slider care is essentially the same.
10 gallons per each inch of shell length for the tank. It will need a strong filter, figure one suited for 10 gallons more to each gallon in the tank. It will need a basking spot with a heat lamp and UVA/UVB lamp.
The pic attached is a guide on the basic diet of sliders.
Turtles really aren't good as far as impulse pets go and you're looking at around $150+ worth of equipment if you're in the US or Canada.
Hostage diamondbacks.

luckily most of the sliders and pond turtles are more in the 20-30 year range. But some of those tortoises can live 50 to 100 years.

It is very possible. The pet trade has created several populations of invasive sliders.

Here is a somewhat ideal setup for a slider, to give you an idea of how much water they need

it's a redear you blind fuck
>>2040217
yeah, you can tell by the COMPLETE LACK OF A RED STRIPE COMING OFF HIS EYE.
>>2040221
blind fuck
>>2040217
Idk senpai. The red stripe is very faint. And his nose is rounded, not pointy. Could it be that he's very old?
>>2040225
Although he does have those RES eyes.
>>2040225
not all RES have nice colors.
Could be a hybrid, maybe. In any case it's care will be identical to a slider.
>>2040235
I have a RES you asshat
>>2040238
and yet you don't have any idea what they look like. you should call and make an appointment with the optometrist because YOU BLIND MOTHERFUCKER.
>>2040240
Shhhhh.......he's sleeping.
>>2040217
Either way the care is the same.
