So how are monitor lizards pet wise? I don't expect them to cuddle like a dog but do they actually give a shit about you? Can you handle them?

They are very dog-like actually. Ours loved to snuggle, especially resting their heads on my boobs while they laid on me for nap time. They will follow you around the house and greet you when you come home. They also love scratches and can be trained to use puppy pads.

This is true with some monitors. but >>2031860 be aware proper monitor care involves a huge cage with several feet of soil and like 130 degree basking temps. Some monitors can be great pets, but others will never calm down with people. A LOT of the "dog tame" monitors you see just act like that because they're cold, sick, or both.

Fiona, as pictured, is all huff n bluff only actually biting when I attempt to tong feed her. Lots of hissing and posturing associated with Argus monitors but when you call the bluff she just leaps towards me then tail wips and runs away. She hates slow approaches, it is better the just confidently reach down and lightly grasp her. If you want a nice monitor, buy a black throat like "big boy" on you tube. The Argus, V.p.horni are fully of energy and attitude. Not sure how aggressive when compared to a nile though.
