What's the point of Griffins?
They are basically just eagels with lion asses.
>>
Well see your first issue here is, well, mythological creatures don't exist. Because you see they're myths..

They're fucking awesome, especially if you start getting away from eagle lions.
I want a cormorant river otter gryphon
>>
>>2030336
Because it would take a massive eagle to ride but a griffin only has to be about the size of a horse. Plus, eagles are shitty as terrestrial locomotion, whereas a griffin is pretty decent at it. It may not always be advantageous to always travel by air, also, so you have the option to still be swift on the ground.

Wouldn't a Pegazus be ideal? So long as you're not riding into a battle where the talons might come in handy.

There's some really dumb designs out there.

It's true though. It's not typical Bugguy bullshitting, but an established fact among palaeontologists and biologists alike: birds(aves) are a group of theropod dinosaurs.
>>
>>2032573
There's still a difference between posting pictures of eagles, and arguing over whether or not a certain long dead dinosaur had feathers or not. Prehistoric dinosaur people on /an/ are the most autistic of them all.
>>
>>2032735
That's not what he did, though. He simply acknowledged that posting birbs is in fact the same as posting dinosaurs. Since the anon he answered to didn't want any dinosaurs at all, it should be relevant.

Wouldn't the griffin also need to be able, in order to carry the additional weight of a human.
Also, I cant really think of a situation where walking is better than flying.

I guess, my point is, a griffin is probably gonna hunt with his talons, just like an eagle would, his lion legs seem to serve no real purpose, other than supporting his lion ass, which again, is unnecessary
>>
>>2034886
>Also, I cant really think of a situation where walking is better than flying.

Bad weather
Discretion
Conservation of energy
>>
>>2034949
pretty sure flying takes less energy than walking.
That's why brids migrate over longer distances than land bound animals
>>
>>2034949
>>2035233
Hey now, there's different types of flying and body type variations in birds. You can't compare a hummingbird to an albatross in terms of energy.

However, migrating is extremely stressful on bird's bodies that have to rely on flapping so much. It's not easy and many die along the way. Then you have birds like the wandering albatross, which can go hours without flapping it's wings once and it saves a shit ton of energy.
>>
Ask /tg/, they'd probably just want to fuck it though.
>>
>>2033371
>Protoceratops
Did griffins originate in mongolian mythology?
>>
>>2032484
You mean like physically or evolutionary?
like physically speaking, a pegasus is entirely possible. To be airborn it'd need a pretty different skeletal structure than a normal horse to keep itself streamline while in flight, hollow bones. a fuckhuge wingspan, and some tail feathers, but as far a physics biology are concerned, it's feasible. Good luck getting evolution to make it for you, though.

Only problem is there's no way in hell it could get airborn while you ride it. you probably wouldn't even be able to sit on it at all without injuring it horribly.
>>
>>2037343
You could sit on it without injuring it. Birds are pretty durable.
You could grab an eagle and sit on it and it would be fine assuming you aren't a hambeast.
>>
>>2037344
I'm reasonably sure sitting on an eagle will injure it even if you're not a landwhale

Aren't wings just a pair of hands/legs. In that sense it's a bit silly.
