It is cute but it's also just a baby. They get a little rougher looking when they grow up. Fat and sway backed. But I love pigs so I still think they're cute.

They're completely different from cats and dogs. You'd have to meet one to really know what they're like. They don't chew stuff up but they will explore it with their mouth. Their nose and mouths are their shovel/hands. They can be destructive because they like to root but I wouldn't describe them as any more destructive than a dog and if you keep them busy they don't do anything like that.

They're incredibly intelligent, more so than dogs. It's pretty easy to potty train them because they are naturally fastidious about where they shit. Even my full time full size outdoor hogs have a potty corner.

They don't like to be picked up ever. They can be noisy. They are needy socially and mentally so if you're not going to devote your life to them, get too. They also should spend much of their time outdoors. They can be well behaved indoors for periods of time but they are outdoor animals at the end of the day.

If you have the right situation they're incredibly rewarding pets. Very loving, can learn complex tasks and even display clear logical analysis. And very endearing. Mine "sing" to me.

Pigs REALLY hate being held though. Which is kind of a pain when they're very small. I mentioned it because it seems to be the big surprise to a lot of people who get them, that they scream bloody murder if you pick them up. They can get sort of used to it but they never like it.

Pigs specifically need a lot of time outdoors because they're rooting animals. They're really is no indoor analog for them to replace rooting around in the dirt. The most enriching single thing for pigs is a bale of hay in the dirt. They like indoor toys as well but if they don't spend a lot of time nosing about outside they get behavioral issues and become destructive.

As babies I start them on pee pads because they, like any baby animal, have tiny bladders but their instinct to eliminate in a certain area starts very young so I get them started on that. Then I start potty training them to go outside like the dogs. I move the pee pad further and further off the deck and they just naturally like to go in a far corner anyhow. Then I have a bell on the door they ring if they need out while inside.

They have a really wide range of vocalizations and one of the things they do is that when they see me coming they start "crooning" at me, a low sweet piggy "weeeeee weeeee". A more urgent form of sow to piglet noises because they consider me one of the sows/mom. And I tend to sing as I'm doing chores and I like to imagine they're trying to do it too.

My dogs, cats and pigs are all grand friends. I have a farm cat that sleeps in on a heap with the large outdoor farm pigs.

This is my livestock guardian dog with some orphaned regular sized farm pig babies.

The pigs are very intelligent and inquisitive and they learn how to get along with the dogs and cats very well. But this is because if you haven't noticed I am pretty hands on. If you had a large farm pig that had never met dogs or cats it might try to attack them. But pigs raised with cats and dogs love them dearly.

The cats in particular really love the pigs because they radiate heat and they learn to respect the cat's claws quickly.
