Dude I know from high school joins marines after being in that stupid ROTC program. Goes to boot camp, 9 months after has a kid.

2nd instance.
Dude I know from high school again, he fucked up pretty badly so he resorted to marines. Goes to boot camp, comes back, next thing I see he's engaged to a junior still in school.

3rd instance and the one that really hits home.
My sister dating a guy who after high school goes to the marines.
During the time he was at boot camp he would send her letters and stuff she dug it. He one day out of the blue comes in his uniform and she's gets all happy. Later though, they start to discuss the future. As a marine you have to be deployed 4 years to reap any benefits. My sister was smart and said she wouldn't wait for him. In a desperate measure he comes to our house and proposes to her. He even takes off his dog tags and throws them into bushes to "show" he's serious. My sister still says no. They end there.

Not even a fucking year later, like 5-6 months dude gets married to some other girl. So that's when I figured it out, Marines do it for the money. My sister was nothing but a pay check to him. Love her. She's smart.
