/adv/, I need your help. I've always thought of this board as a complete joke, even worse than /r9k/ and down there with /cgl/ and /soc/, but... damn it, I've got nowhere else to go to whom I can get honest advice from. You guys are my last hope. I'm 25 now, and I'm getting old fast.
To make a long story short, I have a chronic problem with procrastination. I basically realized a couple of days ago that millennials are so unlikely to ever accomplish anything because they have a constant access to some source or another of Dopamine. Whether it's video games, porn, over-eating, travel-addiction, weed, drinking, spending, et cetera... I have come to the same conclusion as the Buddists and the Ascetics that, so long as a person has these things in their life, they'll forgo taking the hard, but necessary steps that will make them truly happy. To that end, I decided to quit all of those things. But even now, I'm still procrastinating. Today was my day off from work (a crappy part-time position in sales that pays pennies relative to what I should be getting,) and even despite having quit everything fun, despite my resolve to finally sit down and send out copies of my resume... I still didn't get anything done today. I spent all fucking day on 4chan and YouTube, not to mention sleeping. It's almost like I'd rather do anything else except look for a better job. Granted, it is a total pain in the ass to look for one these days, and I'm very insecure about my resume, but this is just completely ridiculous.

Figure out your goals. Divide into small steps. Schedule what you're supposed to do, including leisure. When you're trying to get something done, focus on accomplishing the smallest step you can do to get closer to your goal (not the goal itself). Celebrate success, when you reach a goal or a milestone you've set, you need to treat yourself.

you have to talk yourself trough the steps. it's mostly a question of getting startet. once you accomplished that, the possibility of continueing is pretty big.
for example, tell yourself that you only do ONE really small thing towards the goal you have today. something that you know you can get done in about 2-3 minutes and then you tell yourself to stand up, walk to the computer and type in a job search. that's it. after that you're free to go procrastinate again. the next day, your goal is to search ONE job that sounds promising. done.
you will see that most likely you'll get way more shit done than you set out for, and even if you don't, you ateast made a baby step forward. it will feel REALLY good and give you the boost you need to keep going.
it's the same with everything.
also, keep in mind that all of those things need self dicipline. discipline is not endless. infact, it has a daily limit (that you can increase by using it and training yourself). once you hit that limit, you won't be able to muster up any more discipline and will fail miserably, feeling bad about yourself, which might prompt you to give up conpletely.
so be wise about how you spend it till you generated more of it. for example, as a starter, use the discipline you have only to do job searches. don't use it up to also simultaneously stop smoking, eat healthy, work out, find a gf, you get the idea.
find the thing you think will benefit you most atm and focus on that.
you also need to never underestimate the importance of having some lazy down time every day. you won't be able to keep things up for very long if you think you can completely cut out having idle moments that don't recuire you to be "active and productive". find a balance and stick to it.
on lazy days, i also like to do things like setting a timer for 10 mins and do whatever i can get done in that time and after that i can go back to being a lazy piece of shit. you'd be amazed at how much one can accomplish
