So, back in May, I was an assistant manager before our store went out of business. I was making good money but since then I've been on unemployment (unemployment is fucking purgatory, do whatever you can to avoid using it).
4 months later, another retail store has opened up an assistant manager position, I applied and immediately got called by the district manager. We were talking about the position and he even asked if I could be interviewed the next day by the store manager. The interview went beautifully, and he was very eager to hire me. 2 hours later, the district manager got the news, told me about the perks and even told me how much he wanted to start me off.
After this, the store manager has a problem, seeing as this retail chain is sort of linked to the one I worked before, my ex boss listed me as non rehireable, or some shit, and they've had me on limbo for two weeks. HR can't seem to find the reason why I was listed as non-rehireable, and after two calls with the store manager, he's still waiting on the district manager to "sort it out" but I have a feeling they may not want me anymore (I wasn't fired at my old job or did anything that violated protocol).
What do?
Well have you been applying for other jobs in the meantime?

Yes I have, but this has been the best job I've come across.

If you need a job and it doesn't look like you're going to get this one, you're doing yourself a disservice by sitting on your ass and waiting.

Thing is, I'm already in a fucked situation since I haven't been getting call-backs. This is the first I've gotten a call back from, and since then I have been applying regardless.

Then just keep doing what you're doing, it's in their hands now. Don't put your job search on hold on the off-chance that this could eventuate in something.
