Trim as short as possible first, shave after like you would shave your beard. In my experience, my balls are kind of easier to shave than my face, I don't even use shaving cream. Just hot water under the shower.

Do you know anything about pheromones, or how body hair helps absorb sweat so it isn't just a buffet of bacteria causing BO?

OP, if you don't have or aren't comfortable with a razor, use scissors. Get a comb and comb the hair out so it's not compressed down anymore, then trim a cm or so from the skin. IN sensitive areas where you're afraid of nicks, pull the hair out and away from the sensitive area before cutting. I've trimmed like this for years.

Get a trimmer.
If you don't have a trimmer, just cut them with scissors and then shave with a safety razor and shaving foam.
