Alright dude, a lot of the people you're going to meet are through clubs. You're a freshman, honestly you'll have time to attend at least a club or 2. Get out there man.

typicall beginner mistakes.

build up a social group around learning for exams / preparing practical courses / presentatations etc. thats what really matters. maybe with some of the better friends out of this group you can go to a party from time to time. but clubs and sport teams are not very important in your college time.

maybe it doesn't float your boat, but I actually picked up magic the gathering form a cardshop in my new town (also freshman) for some nostalgia. actually got invited to play 2 meters further and went with it. Sure there are some greasy fatfucks but honestly 95% of the people there seem fine by now and atleast aren't completly degenerate (you know, some hipsters running about).

Friends are easy, just be nice and talk to people. Just go along with whatever people are doing and youll make friends.
