>no friends in uni
>already tried a bunch of different clubs last year
>try talking to people and making friends but it never works
How do you do it?

Why do you think it's not working? What problems do you see when establishing rapport with people?
Describe a situation where you're talking to someone trying to make friends, what happens?

If I had to say, I think I might seem a little boring. I'm not very good at social situations and sort of awkward, though I've been trying to fix that, and I'm not very funny or anything. I just can't seem to connect with a lot of the people I talk to, which isn't helped by the fact that my hobbies are either kind of niche or attract really unsavory individuals.

>talking with new person
>usual routine of "Oh, where are you from/major/clubs/etc"
>don't really have anything in common and don't really feel a pull, keep trying to bond anyway
>conversation soon comes to an awkward end and I never really talk with them again
I don't even think I LIKE people all that much, but I do want friends I can talk with and connect to.

Try a change of tactics. Instead of trying to find someone with common interests, how about trying to set up a situation where you share an experience (do something together) with someone?

Have any examples of how one might bring about a situation like that? Just inviting someone to randomly try something new seems awkward if I just met them.
