My boyfriend likes ASMR. I don't understand it or see what the deal is with it. Should I be weirded out? It's always a girl just doing sounds on a mic and I don't understand what's going on. Please help

It's not weird. I'm a guy who listens to it, and it's just something that helps me relax and fall asleep at night. It puts me in a state of restfulness. Maybe you could make him some ASMR of your own for him to listen to?

It seems weird and cringe
Have you ever held a pillow in your arms to fall asleep easier as if you were cuddling with someone? It's like that but sound instead of physical touch.

you seem dumb as fuck

The objective side of me says that it's just a tool for relaxation, but the realistic side of me thinks it might be some sort of really bizarre fetish.
Either way, your bf isn't doing anything wrong... people just lije what they like.

>always a girl
Not really - there's a vast variety (like nature sounds, crinkling noises, salon cuts, etc., any sound that elicits a tingling sensation) though there's a lot of girls trying to capitalize off the market of lonely males. You're mainly just stereotyping based off some of the popular videos.
I'm a girl and I really love ASMR. It's when you hear something so crisp that it sends this soothing and sparkling sensation though your body. Like...a shiver down your spine except way better. Most ASMR lovers are more into it for the comfiness, and not for fetishistic reasons.
If that doesn't make any sense, think of ASMR and those that experience the tingles as having a bit of a nerve massage.

ASMR puts me at rest for bed and nerves better than anything outside of prescription pills. My mom used to whisper to me as a kid when I was going to bed, and put a very particular clock that made a nice click near my bed each Christmas Eve to calm me down enough to sleep when Santa was coming in just a few hours.
ASMR has the same effect today, and lulls me to sleep. Sometimes I even listen to guys.
You may not feel anything from it, but it's an amazing sleep effect that I've shared with people, who benefit from some videos.

Seconded. OP, maybe you should think about why "Weird and Cringe" was the only coherent response you had to that guy. Sure, you can think something's weird, but the way you go about it makes you seem extremely judgmental. And cringey, honestly. It almost makes it seem you're trying to insist that there's something wrong but don't have the cranial capacity to describe it beyond "Weird and Cringe."
