You have to find your own definition which you are able and willing to pursue.

being a man is trusting in yourself and being confident in doing your own thing, you can be polite or whatever but never conform to what other people want you to be and never feel like you should be going out of your way to be accepted by others.

if you just do you and follow your own path, people will come to you. this is why the 'man' is always the one leading rather than the guy who is unsure of himself, because the 'man' knows who he is and where he is going.

I think to be a man means that you experience more pain and heartache in your life but you cannot show people that you are suffering. You have to be the solemn, silent sufferer or else be accused of being soft or non-masculine. Being male means you have to scrap for everything you desire, that you either create your majestic reality or be buried by it. Masculinity is unforgiving, rigid, difficult, destructive. Not following these rules banished you to the outer realms of society, to be without a wife or a good living.
