I'm 18 years old and my first semester starts on Wednesday. I have really bad social anxiety that I attribute to an abusive upbringing. I can't even go to the grocery store or take care of basic adult duties and I feel like a little child. My social skills are probably that of someone half my age. How do I get over this crap? I feel like I'm missing out on life because of this.

work on your self-esteem. I know a good (french, untranslated in english) book, if you want.

Oh, and take care of yourself (good food, good sleep, good hygiene, good health).
And be your best friend (Talk to yourself and take care of yourself like you would do for your best friend, especially when you feel like you have done something wrong).

Benzodiazepines for short-term, antidepressants for long-term treatment. Self-help books, reading stuff online and similar is highly unlikely to ever help you in any meaningful way.
i had social anxiety, i overcame it; those ^^^ advices won't help you. you have to realize and accept that social anxiety is a bitch and that it won't disappear from one day to another. it takes time, and lots of patience! most importantly, you have to keep in mind that you WILL overcome it, no matter how much it takes, some day that hoe will die. and you'll be happy.
also visit a psychiatrist, obviously. get help!!! tell your family too, that will make you more comfortable
self-help books are bullshit. all that kind of stuff is bullshit
and antidepressants or any medicine like that is bad. it will make everything worse

One of these book really helped me. Not all are good, thought and none can provide the miraculous shit they are saying they can.
You have to be willing to work on yourself and to have a critical mind when choosing and applicating advices.

Hiding pain does not supress it.
OP, if you listen to that faggot who reads self help books, trust me, you'll have social anxiety for the rest of your life and you'll die miserably sad.

Okay, but that doesn't have anything to do with my post.
