Is it possible to have mental breakdowns from weed? Tried it first time at 25 over a week and had a mental breakdown. Tried it again recently and having a hard time. I thought weed was supposed to calm people down?

Well at the end of the day, weed is a psychoactive drug , so it depends on your mental attitude and general mental health. Even weed can trigger mental issues , especially if it runs in your family

Severe anxiety and depression that lasts weeks or days. Crying, unable to function normally, unable to go outside.

Weed had two compounds in it. Whether you feel the sleepy happy calm or the anxiety and panic depends on your genes, your environment and mental state when getting high, and the plant itself.
It is totally possible, and it would probably be smart to avoid it in the future. You likely have a tendency to get the bad trips.

Weed is psychedelic. A weak one, but still. It can trigger various mental issues you were predispositioned for.
I suggest you to never do drugs again and seek psycholog. Obviously your experience isnt worth another try, is it?
