I've lived in Texas my whole life and this seems to be a good opportunity to experience a different world. My options are either Ireland or China. Those places seem so foreign to me that it's scary. Thoughts?
What are you studying? I'm a chef and I had the chance to study abroad in either France or Germany but I blew it before I could get the chance. I regret it now so I suggest you think it over very carefully.

Yes. It's worth it. Seeing the larger world is always worth it.

There's a difference between traveling and visiting a place, and living there. I spent a year in Germany when I was 18, and it was one of the best decisions of my life.

staying a semester is not living there either, you're just a tourist for a few months instead of a couple weeks

Fair enough. Going for a single semester may not be worth it (Although some people may need the excuse to go someplace new).
If you're going to study abroad, stay at least a year.
I'm going for 5 years to get a PhD. The location has exactly the program and professor I want. Look for what you want to study, because what you do with your life is more important than where.
