strange internet problem

im connected to steam but i cant connect to any game servers, cant log in to path of exile, can connect to PUBG servers, getting EAC kicked off some games, cant connect to Skype.. strangest thing. Would really appreciate some help thanks in advance

Try connecting through a different network. Phone Hotspot, free VPN or Proxy works too. My connections been getting intercepted by Verizon lately and I can't stream GTO anymore without a failed server load.

and yes im going through a router via ethernet but its never given me trouble in the past, could be going faulty though. In the past changing the DNS fixed this issue but now it seems to have no effect.

a friend recommended doing a tracert to a website i couldnt connect to and i did but i wasnt sure what to do with the results

Likely a firewall issue, turn off all firewalls and check the port settings in your router. Make sure uPnP is enabled.

when i run a tracert it is timing out on the 6th hop im not sure if that is useful information at all

i completely disabled the windows firewall in hopes it would resolve it, its still disabled

When you ping 8.8.8.8 what response time do you get? If it is high I would call your ISP and make them come fix it.

response time is fine for this ~25ms, what does this tell me? my gut tells me that its a DNS issue, ive had my DNS set to 8.8.8.8 secondary 8.8.8.4 the whole time except when i tested it on automatic

What kind of internet connection do you have (DSL/cable/mobile)? Have you tried restarting your modem/router?

I can't tell you what the problem is but it has nothing to do with DNS. The only thing DNS does is "translate" domain names to IPs. You say you can browse the net OK so DNS works.
Skype and online games don't use DNS.

25ms ping to 8.8.8.8 seems fine too.

Cable, ISP is Comcast.

One thing in common is any game that has its own login server (path of exile, pubg) or its own anti cheat (Rust) I can't play, but I can play dota2 fine

honestly the biggest problem is not being able to access certain websites including my online banking!!

theres your problem right there. My friend complains all the fucking time how slow his internet gets at times. Mines usually good but have been having fluctuations lately. relatively minor tho.

unfortunately in my area Comcast is literally the only option. Not the only good option or the only affordable option, literally the only option. so im forced to sit over here and fuck myself waiting for it to fix
