I can go to a shitty uni thats 10 minutes away from my house or drive 2 hours there and back everyday to UBC. What do I do?
>>18679481

Crappy uni bro
If you're not willing to work 15-20 hours a week to afford rent somewhere, just go to the shit Uni.

Assuming you live with your parents and want a comfy uni life you should settle for the shitty school. If you truly believe the other school is better for your major and you will actually make use of the name on your diploma you could either schedule as many classes on the same day as possible and drive up. or you could get a fucking job/extra loans and pay for dorm. Its all about what you can handle and the actual worth of your major imo.

>actual worth of your major imo.
Major will be physics, then gunna do grad school
Which shitty uni are you talking about?
SFU? That's SJW-central. Leave your balls at the front desk. There's only room for LGBTQIA folks here, you cis-gendered nazi.

How independent do you want to be? Here is a solution that a young guy could take:

Mathew Arthur has figured out how to own a home in Vancouver for less than $5,000 a year – he just needs to find a parking spot with a power outlet and a garden hose.
Arthur plans to live in a three-quarter ton van it for one year.
“It’s a creative political statement,” the 30-year-old designer and web developer said. “I’ve lived in Vancouver for about eight years now, but I’m frustrated because I want to own my own home.”
Sure, his space will be about 60 square feet and won’t contain a toilet or shower, but for him a place of his own is more important than the traditional idea of a proper living space.
“It’s about having a space that I can modify or change without having to ask someone else’s permission.”
A city bylaw requires recreational camping permits for living on the street or public property, but it doesn’t specifically rule out living on private, rented property. (Arthur will rent his parking space for $250 a month. He has a few to choose from but hasn’t landed a specific spot yet.)

Yaaa I'd rather not do that lol

Sorry, to clarify OP, is this your plan?
If so, then definitely do shitty school near home, overkill your grades in undergrad, then do grad somewhere awesome (maybe in a major city, depends what kind of physics you want to do) when money is thrown at you for being a grad student.
I've done BSc in Canada, undergrad is all the same wherever you go, may as well get high grades and do whatever you want after. I know it sucks to have to delay gratification for 4 years, but its better that way.
Different story though if you just want to do your undergrad while getting hooked up with jobs in tech or something. Then I say move to UBC and network your ass off.
>>18683242
Ya that's the plan I'd wanna do grad school In a top school
>>18683269
Yeah so UFV is probably a better idea. Physics requires A LOT of time to sit down and do the work to understand the material, do not underestimate this. Wasting time driving isn't worth your time.
Unless you're doing business in a top 10 school, your undergrad doesn't matter.
What do you even want to do with Physics job wise?
Making connections is more important. There are people who graduate from McGill and UofT and can't find jobs as opposed to Bishops and Brock who are fine off because they're not socially autistic.

>What do you even want to do with Physics job wise?
Research of some kind
>>18683575
yeah you're gonna have to go to masters/phd anyway
programs at more prestigious schools are a lot harder than regular schools bc they have to fail more ppl
try your best in UVU or whatever you wanted to go to, get a killer GPA, write a few papers and then go to the masters/phd program that gives you the best scholarship
are you gonna have a minor? business or comp sci doesnt hurt

Ok thanks guys

Political statements are all very well, but what's he going to do for a bathroom?
How cold is a typical Vancouver winter? Can he survive in an uninsulated vehicle?
>>18683587
Np! Have fun wherever you go! :)
