SO I'm being evicted. For having a guest over. Though I know it's illegal for her to do this, I want out anyway so I don't care, but I have a question about how rent works. This might be a stupid question, but I need help and can't really find a definitive answer for my province.
If I am evicted, and I signed a full year's lease, do I have to keep paying rent after I leave? I'm 3 months in, but would I have to pay the other 9 months rent?

Also ontario.
No. You paid first and last. You will lose your last as a penalty. They cant make you keep paying rent if the lease is broken.
Also if youre being evicted illegally you can probably get away with getting your last back. If the landlord is doing the evicting for no lawful reason, then it is the landlord that broke the lease so they cant levy a penalty against you.

For your specific issue, I linked the other page for contact details. Only the LTB can order that she pays you mind you, which their number is in the link below.

I STRONGLY recommend you ask her for a written explanation why she is evicting you. Before you do anything though contact the LTB (416) 645-8080

Honestly not sure brother.
Again im no expert but i imagine if you have in writing the reason you were evicted, there is no record of any violation on your part that would lawfully allow the landlord to terminate the lease, you can probably just not pay rent or call the bank and dispute the payment if its already gone through.
Theres a ministry or bureau for landlords and tenants. Call them and ask im positive theyll help.
Also the law leans way too heavily in the favour of the tenant in our province. So much so ive heard a million and a half news stories on the radio about landlords who actually have bad tenants destroying the house and not paying rent and being totally powerless to get them out.
So you definitely have an advantage.
But i would recommend definitely calling the authority on this.

Uhhh you should go to the cops right now because thats highly illegal. Why did you give them signed checks? Are you retarded?
>>18672007
Thats standard here. Post dated cheques.
Its not illegal. Its very convenient even if your landlord doesnt have electronic banking.
The cheques are in, you dont have to go anywhere or do anything for your rent. It just comes out.

OP, talk to the bank. They can stop payment on those checks.

Good idea.

Ok, I'm definitely gonna report them at this point. It's ridiculous she thinks she can get away with it.
