Hey guys, school just started and I'm trying to get to know a girl in my French class. It's been two classes already and we were seated side by side both times (rather randomly). She's pretty and seems introvert (just like me) - she doesn't talk much.
In the second class we had a small team-work to do, we were a team of five and we both were in the same team obviously.
I'm waiting for my next class to be [hopefully] near her.
I'm aware it might be hard to start a conversation without being weird, but I already know that one good way would be to do a joke, maybe make her laugh. I think presenting myself "officially" would be awkward as hell.
I also found her on Facebook, but I'm not gonna add her now, would be too soon in my opinion.
So, I'm here asking for your help.

Don't try to do anything in the first week or two of school. Just be a warm, comforting presence. Smile, offer her a pencil (I am old, I realize that probably isn't still a thing), make small talk about the lectures. Have your shit together (dress neatly, show up on time with margin, appear prepared).
Once you lay that groundwork, then just be up front and honest and steer clear of all that subtly shit (she's introverted, she doesn't like dealing with people's shit). Say something like "Its been cool hanging with you in class and you seem real nice. Can I take you out for coffee sometime?" Or movie or lunch or whatever you prefer.
In short, be forthright but don't come on too strong. Be cool and earnest.

OP, do not interpret 'dress neatly' to mean 'dress shirt and tie'.
Just don't wear T-shirts too large for you and cargo shorts.

Yeah I'm not a fuckboy so that's not an issue
Thank you, I'll gather the most tips I can here

Yeah, I just meant freshly laundered clothes that fit well, are business casual-y (that's what we wore in my day, sorry if that is different now), and aren't wrinkled. Thanks for helping to clarify.
>What should I do?
Initially, introduce yourself (not officially, more like casual). It won't be awkard If you sit next to her and progressively ask her little things, her age, likes...
>What should I avoid doing?
Jokes going directly to her seems like a bad idea, kinda cringy. Don't get too nervous, she's human too after all. And don't
overextend with talk.
