Few basic principles
1. Take care of your body first, if you're out of shape or have bad hygiene no amount of clothing will help
2. The way your clothes fit matters tremendously. I can almost guarantee you wear boxy, unflattering fits.
3. Think about the settings/uses your clothes have to meet, then build around that. Create something new. Above all you have to be comfortable in your clothes, so wear what makes you feel confident.

Personally I like to wear heavy, rough fabrics in muted earth colors. I like brass and steel and wool and leather. It took a few years to really put together a set of clothes I was happy with; the only thing I really took away from months of visiting /fa/ was tip 2 above. Otherwise they only know how to buy what they're told. You should try to create something of your own.
