Hi /adv/, I wouls like to ask. Let's say in a scenario that I saw someone with a light injury akin to a scraped knee and I don't have any medical equipment on person, is alcohol like beer suitable as an antiseptic? Just wanna be prepared
No. I believe the alcohol has to have an alcohol content of over 10 to properly disinfect. Beer is like 3-6%.
You're better off with unflavored Vodka or hand sanitizer.
You could have googled this question too.

I could have but I prefer having answers from other people with a degree of experience on the matter

No, beer won't do anything. You do want to apply any sort of oil, though. Cooking oil or hell, even rubbing bacon on it should leave a layer of fat over the wound, preventing infections.

Oh, that's interesting to hear, what about flesh wounds, will it help if I rub some grease off some fat food and apply it on the wound?
>>18646750
Use of alcohol is not recommended anymore and should never be used. Just pouring it with clean water is the preferred method if you don't have an antiseptic.

>oil
>bacon
>fat
This is also bad advice.
>>18646788
It should help, yes. But butter or cheese won't help, since it's a dairy product and it goes bad fast. It has to be animal or vegetal fat.

>This is also bad advice.
No, it's hilarious advice.
>>18646797
Can't believe I fell for it, imagine telling the doctor about this...
>>18646799
I thought you were just humoring me.
>>18646802
Nah senpai, I don't play around when lives are at stake, even if it's just as something minor like a flesh wound
>>18646799
Nat20 on that bluff check + charisma mod. Don't blame yourself.
>>18646805
So dramatic
Alright moving on, in case of being in an isolated area somewhere like a forest or mountain without outside contact and (somehow) medical equipment. What do I do when someone is injured and what can I use in the mountains/forest as medical supplies?
>>18646814
In case of going to an isolated area like a forest or mountain, take a first aid kit with you.
>>18646823
Like I said, due to some blunder or equipment mismanagement, my First Aid is not within my possession and someone is injured. What do I do on that situation
>>18646830
Bring a spare
>>18646833
We're not going anywhere with this, are we?
>>18646836
Let's just say there's a very good reason we don't rub roots or herbs at hospitals or clinics.
>>18646794
>if you don't have an antiseptic
Aren't those just alcohol anyways? Or are you talking iodine?
>>18646830
Stop critical bleeding, stabilize and get them to a doctor.
>>18646750
Why don't you invite a cleric to the party?
>>18646840
>We instantly have penicillin and anaesthesia on the day we started being bipedal
All I ask is what are the ways to heal a person without modern medicine
>>18646842
Might as well bring an alchemist along, at the very least we can get high on weird shit
>>18646845
Well, fine, sassmonger. You cultivate fungi in the middle of the mountain to extract penicillin for bacterial infections and synthetize anaesthesia in the woods.
>>18646846
I'm in.
Do you have long hair? You can use it to stitch wounds, and it's pretty sterile, too. Earrings for needles, if you need them.
>>18646851
I'm a dude with short hair and no piercings
>>18646856
You're as good as dead.
>>18646845
Bloodletting was the go-to method throughout most of history. Good luck with that.
>>18646849
>Cultivate fungi for penicillin
>synthesize anesthesia in the woods
Might as well be a hermit in the woods
>>18646861
Or take a first aid kit.
