Human brain is a strange little machine. Without frequent periodic emotional upkeep via meeting with your so and doing stuff with them in person, you start drifting away.

Do this long enough and sooner or later one of you will encounter new boy/girl and you cant compete with them simply because they can cuddle and smile with them while you cant. And then everybody feels bad and ldr goes to shit.
